All of the above but the noaa does have doppler so I can see who's getting rain/snow.

I think looking out of the window is fine for hikes in the local area ( I do this too!) -- It isnt low tech but SMART!!

but if you are planning on a trip far away .....looking out of the window does not help with the decision to drive 100's miles only to find out the weather was bad at the destination.

I like to see a animated satellite. It can tell you quite a bit and help you decide if the forecast is going to be accurate at all.

Pilot Weather Satellite

I do like Weather Underground and some more aviation sites which report the current weather at various stations.
