Don't have details yet just putting this out there to give people a heads up!
Gonna leave the Valley behind for another long weekend. Going to Pinal Mountains to play! Taking the girls of course so if you don't like dogs in camp this is your warning! It's cooler in them there hills!
DIRECTIONS:
In Globe, AZ, off US Rt. 60, turn at sign to the Globe Ranger
Station. Continue following signs to the Globe Ranger Station
for 1.6 miles to Icehouse Canyon Rd. (and Pinal Recreation Area
sign). Bear right onto Icehouse Canyon Rd. and go 1.8 miles to
stop sign (Forest Rt. 112 and 55 and Kellner Canyon Rd.). Turn
right onto Kellner Canyon Rd. (Forest Rt. 55) and go 2.9 miles to
the Pinal Mountain sign (Forest Rt. 651 and 55). Turn left onto
Forest Rt. 651 and go 10.3 miles to Pinal Mountain Recreation
Area. Although not signed, the Pinal campground sites begin
right after the sign and are located on both sides of Rt. 651.
NOTE: The access route turns into dirt 2 miles from the turnoff
onto Kellner Canyon Rd. and stays that way to the campground.
Forest Rt. 651 is single lane with turnouts.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 7,500 ft.
The campground is pack it in, pack it out. It is nestled in
heavily wooded, mature Ponderosa and White Fir pine. There are
some spectacular views of a valley and mountains from some of the
sites. The campground is an excellent location for hikers with
some ten different trail heads within a one-mile radius. The
Upper Pinal campground, with six sites, is located a short
distance east of Pinal on Forest Rt. 651. |

So! I just decided that taking in mind the rain, thunder, lightning and the killer up hill hike of this weekend, my LEAST favorite thing about weekends such as these is the blast of heat that hits you when you step out of your car in your driveway! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

Glad y'all had fun and sorry I was unable to make it. Too many issues with the software upgrade Saturday AM and it took most of the morning to resolve. _________________ ~~~Trish~~~

What a nice weekend. I really enjoyed it! Great to get outta the heat for a change. Even enjoyed the Rain!
meant to post after getting home and unpacking, but got side tracked
Nice to see all again and enjoyed meeting you kerim and your wife. Sounds like you enjoyed. Hope to see you again at another.
You got the secret password, Wow, I never got that, you all must be special
And we found the trail, just did a little bushwacking, besides it was just to the right ! We were able to see things others don't get to by starting on trail right off
It was at that gate you saw that didn't seem like had been moved in Ages. It wasn't, there was a path around it, no one ever opened, or they just stepped over, Who Knew?
Think the girls enjoyed themselves after the rain. And you got things shored up after a bit.
It was really pretty out there and the clouds coming in was a real experience, was in a total fogout ! Never been in that before, it was really cool and came on so suddenly.
The AZH Army Corp of Engineers did a fine job of setting up a dry area to cook and eat. It all worked out well. Good Job
The kittens were adopted on sunday, both of them. Waiting to hear if they went to the same home. Hope so
And found my other sock when unpacking Jeep. Sunglasses were in my pack outer mesh pocket. Dang thought I had them on my dash...
NP.. found them just the same. Looks like I didn't lose a thing this trip
It was a good weekend, thanks for putting up
See y'all next time, if things permit _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)
