In order to escape Canada's ice for few weeks in January, I'm looking for a Park or Reserve were I could hike 10 or 12 days in one of the southern states. I would take it easy and hike 12 to 15 km a day carrying my camping gear and food. I though about Grand Canyon but I don't want to see any snow. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Taiviti

The Superstitions would work as might parts of the Tucson area. You might see some snow in the Superstitions but you could avoid it.
I'd hate to turn you out to other loacles but Big Bend in TX might have that as well as some areas in NM. Catalina Island off the coast of CA ight fit the bill for you too?
Anyone else want to chime in?

You could walk along the Colorado River, from north of Yuma, all the way to Blythe. No snow, plenty of water. From Ferguson Lake on Calif. side walk north, then cross over at Palo Verde area to Arizona side. Resupply possible at Palo Verde, or leave caches for yourself. Look at it on Google Earth. Arizona side might be possible, too.
You could hike the Arizona Trail sections in Southern Arizona. You might have to pass over some high points that occasionally have snow, but there are ways to walk around some of them. |
