Hi All -
I recently completed a hike out to Dutton Point on the Powell Plateau. That trip report is finished and can be viewed here:

Oh well dang, I gotta see this! I have seen it from the river. But not the other way round! It has been on my list.
What did you do about water? |

I do not sweat much, so I don't need much water. I started out with two quarts of Gatorade for use on the trail going and coming back and two quarts of water for my evening meal and breakfast meal. It worked out perfect for me. Being at a higher elevation, the temperatures are quite moderate.

I guess with the rain you could have caught some off your tent. A veteran hiker, Mike C. has suggested that for two nights on P. Plateau you could lug a lot of water from Swamp Point and cache it just over the top of the rim of the plateau.
Still amazed you got out there in your car. That is main reason I haven't gone, because I was told my Honda Accord wouldn't make it. Maybe they have worked on the road in recent years? |

On the day I went out to Swamp Point, you could have made it there in any car. Last year was an entirely different story with numerous downed trees. If you are spending two nights on the Plateau, just carry whatever quantity of water you need with you. I suspect most people would head for Dutton Point, so you would only cache a small amount on the north rim of the Plateau and carry the rest with you.
