I am going to be doing a loop from the Peralta TH up Bluff Springs, Red Tanks, and Whiskey Springs trail. This will be my first Supe trip (but certainly not my first backpacking trip). I will be doing this mid-week, the first week in December.
My question is: will I be running into people the entire time? I realize the Peralta TH is busy, but my goal of this loop was to get off the Dutchman trail asap. I'd like some solitude if that is possible in the Supes, and was hoping this loop would provide solitude, while offering some water to pump.
Any feedback on the business of these trails or on a loop (or out-and-back) that is around 13-15 miles would be appreciated! |

As can be expected, you'll see lots of people on Peralta and Bluff Springs but probably not too many on Red Tanks and Whiskey Spring. Last time I was on Red Tanks/Whiskey Spring I didn't see a soul all day.
Probably would be water at Bluff Spring.

You are in luck. A group (11) of us from Friends Hiking Club just hiked that loop 10 days ago. We were armed with loppers and hand trimmers, doing some major carnage on the catclaw and mesquite - it should be clear sailing all the way.
We hiked counter-clockwise and saw 4 people from Peralta all the way to Charlebois where we camped. 2 guys came through our camp about 9PM, just hiking in.
We saw no one on the Dutchman & Bluff until after the Terrapin junction, then it was just one. No one else on Bluff Springs until about 1 mile from Peralta, but even then it was just 6 in total the whole way. Water @ Bluff, Whiskey (low flow), LaBarge & Charlebois. _________________ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Wow! thanks for the replies (and the trail work). I hope this is the first of many Supe trips! |

You are welcome.
I would like to see if it would be possible for you to carry a pair of hand trimmers with you, making a few improvements here-and-there, so as to maybe improve the trails a little more bit-by-bit? _________________ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I'd be happy to bring along my hand pruners if you let me know the how folks typically discard the trimmed plant material. |

Well... I usually just throw it as far off the trail as possible.
Oh.. and leather gloves are a big help in handling the catclaw - not those fabric 'gardening' gloves, but real leather.
Your help is appreciated by those who will follow you - Thanks! _________________ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
