I don't know if it would be the South Kaibab, or the Bright Angel for me. I know that the SK is easier, but the BA trailhead is more convenient. I've been to or through Phantom Ranch around 55 - 60 times (so far...), and can't wait for the next time. I'm contemplating another RTRTR next month, then 5 days down and around the South Bass with the Field Institute later in October.... |

Pima Canyon in the Catalinas. It's only a few minutes from my house.
When I lived in Phoenix it was Shaw Butte, again because of proximity. I probably hiked that mountain in excess of 500 times in preparation for the PCT. _________________ "Men wanted for hazardous journey. Wow! I'd like to be able to say that too!
Instead you'll likely find me at Camelback Mon-Thu at sunset time, going up Echo Canyon, down Cholla to the saddle, then back up & over. This is my favorite work-out in town, even if I have to drive a bit to get to it. I love watching the sunsets from up there. Although now-a-days, the sun is already setting when I get there. Thank goodness the sunsets are getting later starting this week!! _________________ Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess. |

I've done this hike a record 80 times in the last 4 years.
South Fork of the Deer Creek Trail # 46. Not exactly the most exciting trail in the world but it has it all for me: A torrent of water in the spring and fall, desert, riparian habitat, ponderosa forests, ruins, and the parking area is 500 feet off the Beeline. The old stone cabin is 2.5 miles from the trailhead and a perfect turnaround spot for a three-hour hike. I’ve seen mule deer, black bear, javelina, rattlesnakes, and a thousand species of birds. If you want a more challenging hike, you can hike up to the Mount Peeley access road, about six or seven miles. For a nice downhill, have someone drop you off at the top of the trail on forest road 201 and you can hike down to the trailhead. If you want solitude, hike during the week, if you like company, hike on the weekends. Personally, I like to see a few people on the trail, doesn’t bother me a bit. The stone cabin area is perfect for overnight camping. It is clean, (thanks to my personal adopt a trail policy), quite, and close to home. The trailhead is at the intersection of 87, (the Beeline) and 188. There is a rest area across the Beeline with a phone. Horses and dogs welcome. _________________ Mother nature really likes us, and not just because we taste like chicken. |

so I went along for the hike of it! |
Now that is a turn of phrase that I like.
I probably have done Squaw Peak and Camelback more than anything else, I used to run them at least once a week. But they aren't my favorite hikes. Heck I hardly do them any more.
Now I'm lucky to get out once a month for a decent hike! _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

There is a possibility that we could have crossed paths sometime. Last winter I was doing this hike once a week, mainly on tuesdays, no paticular time. Once I get some time I will start doing it again. I start at Echo Canyon hike over to to other trailhead and back over. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

Probably a toss up for me between Reavis and the Bluff Springs/Miner's Needle loop. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Mine's a tossup between Wind Cave (to the South summit) and Siphon Draw. Camelback and Squaw Peak are about the same drive time, but I can't stand the crowds and the horrendous parking any more!
