I am waiting for this one to show up in the mail, as well as the REI Stoke 19 daypack, and a pair of New Balance light hikers.
So, next time you see me, I'll be all decked out in something trendy.
Anyone else use the Golite Quest? It's bigger than the Jam, but will cinch down small, and that's what I wanted. I had a smallish Mountainsmith backpack I gave to my daughter. It didn't fit the kitchen sink, so I gave it to her, plus I didn't like the fit when it was fully loaded.
I still think my external frame Adventure 16 hiphugger pack frame from 1975 will haul a bigger load, with NO sagging down the back of your butt, than any internal frame pack I have tried on. That being said, I'm planning to switch everything to ultralight over the next year or so. So I won't have to haul a bigger load. I could and did haul 50+ pounds on that A-16, though. I'm gettin' a bit too long in the tooth to be muling about like that, though. |

I use the Odyssey by GoLite and have been happy with it mostly. They don't use a lot of padding but you're not supposed to need it because you're going light right? Also their pack material is thinnner than most of your "regular weight" packs and as with all "light weight" equipment, you'll need to pay more attention to care of the pack. You'll probably do that anyway since you are using equipment that you've had for 30 + years. You should enjoy it.

Elizabeth, that's the same pack I have. I like mine. If you put water bottles in the side pockets secure them. The pockets are a bit shallow. enjoy! |

I am not too concerned about the padding, but am concerned whether the back of the hipbelt will ride down my butt, while the front of it rides up my belly. I just hate that feeling, and like my packbelt to remain level. Which is one reason I have stuck with my old Hiphugger packframe for so long. Hopefully, with the lighter load I plan to carry, it won't be an issue.
Here's a write-up on my old pack, if you are a history nut. And although it is bulky, the whole thing weighs less than 4 pounds.

Gee I thought I was the only one with the Sagging down the Butt thing going on, cuz I don't have the straps tightened in the right spots correctly.
That still may be the case for me...but at least I know I'm not alone _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

No one makes a pack to fit height challenged persons. I'm 5'1" with a 13" back length from C5 to S1 and every pack I've ever tried does not fit me well. They always ride too low on my iliac crest and therefore ride on my butt......I've found ONE in the last five years designed for really petite people. What do they think? Short people don't backpack? _________________ ~~~Trish~~~

Yeah, I'm 5'2 myself.
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
To live
They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
`Round here
Short people are just the same
As you and I
(A fool such as I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's a wonderful world)
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
To love
They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
'Round here |

Randy Newman......Yeah I know this song. 1978 if I recall. Isn't he a height challenged man himself and like 5'5"? That's like the pot calling the kettle black. _________________ ~~~Trish~~~

I looked at some blogs and reviews. Some people said it was a commentary on racism, to get people to think about what prejudice is. Randy said in an interview he wrote it when his wife had told him she wanted a baby...(assuming he was kidding..) I think it's funny how some people took it so seriously, though. |

Forgot to say, I got the pack in the mail today! I had only time to open the box, and put it on with no weight in it. It is a pretty darned lightweight pack! I am at work right now, had a busy day. |
