0. Generally pick stuff that does not move
1. Big TIP: Use a tripod/ remote trigger
2. Tip #2: Chimp away with Photomatix and Topaz along with hours on Photoshop!
Class was Ok - I was expecting more organized instruction. -- Great images / stories but overall me thinks this could have been wrapped in a couple of hours! You could have learnt more on the internet with the 5+ hrs that the class was. Dinner was great and we got our $100 back already - Guru invested in a G11 earlier in the day at Tempe Camera. _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

You can see in the image that Suz posted in her first post where the rotating antenna has some ghosting because it is moving. It is also way over tone mapped. To do HDR in a realistic manner one must practice restraint when it comes to tone mapping or it is going to look cartoonish. You really don't even have to tone map a 32 bit HDR file. Just send it to Photoshop and convert to 16 bit, work up the various contrast levels and save as a 8 bit jpeg. Or you can use the tone mapping carefully. It might come out very bland but you have all the range of light down, then send it to PS and work up the light and contrast levels. It should not take hours.
Yes, to do it right you have to use a tripod and get three exposures at least 2 stops apart.
I have moved away from HDR unless it is absolutely called for to get all the range of light down. If you are careful, a lot of the time a good DSLR with low noise and wide dynamic range capture, you will get it in one exposure. If you process the RAW skillfully, you can bring out the entire tonality perfectly and in a more realistic looking end product. Still, HDR is a handy tool at times.
That G11 is a cracklin' little point & shoot but it doesn't have quite the dynamic range capture that a Canon Rebel series camera or a DSLR in their mid range offerings or those of the Nikon DSLRs. _________________ Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys
