Recently got back from an awesome road trip, taking in Mckinely, Yosemite, Redwood Forest etc. Lots of awesome hiking miles.
Pictures in gallery don't begin to do justice to the beauty that was displayed on this trip. _________________ Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. |

Glad you guys enjoyed the photo's, even though that can't do justice like being there.
YH, I thought of you while hiking around Yosemite. You are the one that inspired me in the first place with your photoshow a couple years back. Next year I hope to hike the 211 miles of the John Muir, from Happy Isles to Whitney.
Pete, the Whitney photos were taken with a small 10mp Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 point and shoot. It's debut outing. It has a Leica lens and gets great reviews.
The rest of the photo's I carried around the big gun and lenses, but I'm used to it hanging around my neck. A Canon 5D Mark II.
Sande, hiking deep in the redwoods was so totally awesome I can't describe it..... Spiritual, Mystical, Magical, Surreal, Mesmerizing are just a few of the words that come to mind. When the fog is in their it is a whole different world. _________________ Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. |

My last 8000+ shots were on a Panasonic TZ5, the predecessor to the ZS1 and ZS3. The new ZS models and their predecessors pack a lot of power in a small light weight package, ideal for hiking and backpacking without carrying 5 pounds of camera. The new models are about 8 ounces and have 12X optical zoom and 10+ megapixels and have had great reviews by photo pros. These would be my choice at this time. _________________ Become a skilled GPS user and it will set you free! |

Stunning lenswork Kent. The John Muir is off the chart. I hiked in there years ago with a couple of friends where Jack Kerouac and his friend Gary Snyder (who turned Kerouac onto backpacking) hiked before us. Jack London hiked that same trail before them, trees to beach and back. The huge trees in the Muir woods are surreal. Your magical imagery makes me want to go back there. _________________ Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys

Thanks for the info Kent on that Panasonic.
I filed the information away back when you wrote this.
My canon camera took one final pick of Ken (DesertBoonie) and died. I thought that was a rumor that a person could do that, but he did.
I just ordered the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 . Can't wait for it to show up. Again, great pics! _________________ "I am just going outside and may be some time."- Explorer Oates' last words before crawling out of his tent in -40 C temps.
