Just picked up a pair of Hi-tek V-lite Ascends over at Big5 for 49.99
Regular 79.99
Look to be a nice shoe with a great rubber front nose cover and enough nylon mixed in with the leather to keep the boot from blowing loose in the front.
My complaint with the hi tek all one piece leather boots.
The whole front of the shoe blows apart and your feet are swimming in them.
Good lugs and a nice cushion insert as well.

I haven't found a hiking boot that stands up very well. The Lowa Trekkers ($200+) seem to be giving out at about 400 miles. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Shawn, try Zamberlain, Danner, La Sportiva, Asolo, if your $200 Lowas arent holding up id take them back for a refund for sure. you should get 400 miles out of trail runners, much more w/ leather boots. (!)
I know 2 people that have over 2000 miles on Danner boots. Made in USA i think... _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

Montrail Torre GTXs have lasted me for ages, used to be for hiking but now its just my camping, fishing and stuff like that, but still in good shape
The Columbia outlet store up at anthem had them on sale last time i was up there _________________ But let the mind beware, that though the flesh be bugged, the circumstances of existence are pretty glorious

Guess it depends on what you actually do when you go out.
I'm less of a trail 1,000 mile hiker and more of a hillside no trail rock and
talus scrambler.
I never expect any shoe under 50.00 to last more than a couple of months
especially the way 99 % of 50.00 shoes are made these days.
But >>>>>>>>>>>>>I will buy 10 pairs of the right cheap super comfortable shoe before I buy a 200.00 pair that cause discomfort.
Hard to find good reasonably priced boots these days.
Love the online prices .........but every brand fits me different so it would be a crap shoot at best

i agree, thats why i stick with a brand i know fit well. like montrail, right from the box every pair i have ever owned, in several styles. all fit perfect. thats why i buy them from STP on sale.
and then there's Saloman, which are my current faves. I got the XA Comp 3's from Marshalls (!) for $50
Marshalls also has many styles of Montrail from $25-30 so its worth the effort to find one of their stores. here in the valley, there are several. _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg
