I finally got up to the Canyon for my birthday hike!!!!! I was accompanied by some of my favorite people in life for a really fun hike. We attempted to do Hank's pet hike, bushwhacking out to the Orphan mine! It was a great hike with lots of "interesting " moments. Some of which included the 45 minutes we spent huddling in a small alcove out of the rain, lighting and thunder! When the lightning and thunder died down we chose to abort the hike for safety sake and live to return again some day and complete the hike!
You will all be glad to hear that Tom didn't bleed at all.... but Tracy picked up the slack and got a big ole boo boo on her leg and messed up her nice khaki hiking pants. A couple of us made what we like to refer to as death defying slips down inclines due to loose footing and wet rocks and the like. Death defying might be a bit strong but it sure makes for a great story!
The only rain all weekend was the rain we got on the trail!!!! Camp was great and the company was the best! I failed to pack memory for my camera so I got no pictures but those of you who did are welcome to post anything you got to help me tell the story! Pictures always tell the story best! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

Sounds like you all had a good time, despite the temporary shower. Glad it wasn't an all weekend shower. Maybe someone posted some pics, I'll go checking. Looking to see the death defying slopes. I'm sure it was "interesting" as Hank would say.
Sorry Tracy injured herself, hope it heals quickly. _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

Oh -- I had to tell this piece. So when Todd & I got done clawing our way up back to "trail" we were greeted by rather stern looking fella with a Volunteer Ranger Badge who lectured us - -- "you should not be off trail -- The trail is there for your safety...blah blah ...you kick down rocks and it will hurt folks below you ( there were none except for the odd gecko)". There were many a smart alec comments on the tip of my tounge but they stayed right there for we decided that just want worth a 'discussion'.
Everyone BA and the mule trains watched us slip slide and claw our way to the trail -- I am quite sure they pointed to us and said this is how you kill yourselves in the canyon!
And my thoughts as we clambered out was "Darn, FUN is over; we're back on the TRAIL". We listened to him --guy for whatever reason refused to make eye contact ...go figure! He marched up the trail with Hnak making funny faces behind him ...Hilarious!
Diane has another piece that is funny as well! I will let her chime in.... _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

A Volunteer Ranger? Hmmm...kinda makes me think of those Ranger badges they give to kids when they go to a Park or something. I'm sure he was a for real volunteer Ranger but sounds kinda weird. _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

Ranger Rick? I used to get his magazine when I was a kid. _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |
