Been away from AZH for a few years, doing mainly canoe, rafting, backpacks and amateur archaeology trips around the SoWestern states.

I want to start planning next Spring's trips to do 14ers in Colo. These would generally be a day to drive/acclimate/overnight, then hike two or so summits, and then a day to drive home. So the protocol would be about four days. I realize that most don't have the same flex schedule as I, so less/more days could be planned.

I've hiked in Colo. a bunch before and done some stretches of the Continental Divide Trail above 11,000+. While I'm qualified at all levels of First Aid training and a long-time hike Leader, only experienced backpackers with the motivation, capability, and spirit should be up for this. While newer people are welcome, altitude hikes are always a challenge and mountain weather does not read the forecasts.

Having said that, I want to hear from YOU!
JW.

Hi Michelle,
Hope it's going well in Aerospace.

AZH doesn't have much of the old community anymore, but I guess that's to be expected.

While I've done some high Sierras trips and some high trips in Colorado (partly on the Continental Divide Trail), I've never bagged any 14K summits. In Spring 2015 we'll see who's up for it (smile), and make plans. JW.

That sounds interesting JW. I'm trying to pick up a PRN position to supplement my full time work but should be able to string 4-5 days together about once a month. I'll keep this on my radar. I'm currently training to do the Lost Dutchman 1/2 with my daughter and son in law Feb 15th.

Hi George,
Long time. YES, let's do some planning/scheduling! I have skiing and stuff coming up in early 2015, but I do want to get back to Colo trips, and a lot more.

"...training to do the Lost Dutchman 1/2 with my daughter and son in law Feb 15th." Way to go! JW.

Hi Geo and anybody,
I'd like to plan another backpack off Utah's beautiful Cedar Mesa. This would be about three nights in the canyons, so about four and one-half days with driving. The first night would be meet-up at the Kane Gulch ranger station. The next morning we'll enter the canyons. There is mucho archaeology there and rugged almost untouched trails for backpackers. Beautiful photography and places seldom seen. There is an awesome arch to be photographed and possibly scrambled to by the energetic.

After the second night, there is generally reliable water (bring a water filter), and some camp spaces next to Beaver pools and dams. The third night/day is optional, but will allow some time to explore farther upstream which is supposed to have more rarely seen archaeology.

The exit up to the Mesa is a fairly rigorous two-hour vertical gain followed by an approximately 12' crack climb (I did it with a full backpack and a dog). Then it's about two and one-half easy level miles to the parking lot/trailhead.

This is a very remote backcountry trek, so you must have equipment and some previous backpacking experience. Carpooling can be arranged and more details if you PM me. JW.

Hey JW!

LTNS~~~

I'll be in the beautiful San Juan Mountains in Ouray CO in July with Sinati (Cindy)....not sure if we'll be climbing any 14'ers but we'll be up there for a week hiking around the area.

Trish
