Ok it was decided today during what turned out to be the March GHOTM to take a long weekend and go to the Canyon for April's fun! The dates planned are April 26, 27, 28. Plan is loose right now but includes a two night camp on our closed road just outside Tusayon and various different day hikes that can be done to suit your fancy/ current abilities. Needless to say my current abilities are not up to my old standards so we can't plan a rim to rim for this thing!. Some ideas thrown about were down to Horseshoe Mesa, Down to Dripping Springs, down Kiabab to the Tonto and over then out the Bright Angle (a bit longer than most).... the list is longer and we are willing to discuss it here on this thread. We don't all have to hike the same hike but it would be fun if at the end of our hikes we all came back to the same camp and had a nice fire and some fun and food! Friday will be a driving/ social day. Hiking can be done both Saturday and Sunday if you'd like. Or! You don't have to hike at all. You can just hang out and have fun with us at my favorite place in the world! This one will be incredibly flexible! What do you all think? Let's talk about it! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

It's my grand daughter's birthday that weekend but I'm planning on celebrating with her early so I won't miss this one! Now to research all the ideas you gave us and pick what fits me best. I am so excited for the camp fire. Let's make it a big one! _________________ "A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out."

Great Idea!
Here's Couple of options to consider
1) Kaibab-Tonto-BA :~ 12 miles -- Great hike
2) Up & down Grand View: 6-7 miles RT depending on how far you want to go .... ( Steep and no water) http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=227
3) Tanner (7300') down to Stegosaurus Rocks ( 75 mile canyon Overlook) 5600', 1700' below rim http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=129
4) Rim Trail on the West Side
5) AZ trail sections #36 (http://www.aztrail.org/passages/pass_36.html) & #37 (http://www.aztrail.org/passages/pass_37.html) _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

There's great campground @ GrandView Look out Tower.
A big campfire sounds like a great plan .. perhaps Angela will bring out her mini lights for the munchie table! _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

The lights will be there which means I will be there. So many hiking options so little time. Depending on what shape I'm in, I'd love to do #1 on Ambika's list.
I really like the more or less private campground at Grandview Lookout Tower. If someone gets there early enough on Friday, hopefully we can comandeer it. At this time, I still have two bags of wood left over from my Utah trip last Oct.
And I guess it would be a good time to roll out the Huckaritas too. _________________ Angela from N Phoenix |

I agree! But we'll figure something out!
I haven't been up to the Canyon yet this year, so I'm looking forward to it...and to seeing everyone, this will be fun! _________________ ~Tracy

Wow !! it is nice to see some hikes and I enjoy hearing about them, would be better if I could get to some of them
Guess I'll have to get myself on FB to see the pics, I'm so behind.
Sounds Nice!
So many places to get to, on the inner list I've put in my head.
I'd like to join in and if I am able I'll sign up, if y'all will have me.
Right now I don't have a good answer I'll keep my that maybe I can get to this one or a few this year? Life isn't cooperating at the moment
But who knows? Just play it by ear I guess _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

Well if I lived in AZ I would love to come. Maybe I can put up a campfire in the back yard and skype with you all? I certainly do miss that place. _________________ Please checkout our website for all our travels http://jdombstravels.com/

Karen and I will be there, likely with dogs so our hikes will be outside the canyon, but we don’t want to miss out on the fun. _________________ Tony |

Where is this camp spot? Would Tony's dogs be allowed? Is it on a closed road? (not that we would ever camp on a closed road... ) _________________ ~Tracy

Does said camp ground require a permit or reservations? And can we have a fire? _________________ ~~~Diane~~~
