Don't have details yet just putting this out there to give people a heads up!
Gonna leave the Valley behind for another long weekend. Going to Pinal Mountains to play! Taking the girls of course so if you don't like dogs in camp this is your warning! It's cooler in them there hills!

DIRECTIONS:
In Globe, AZ, off US Rt. 60, turn at sign to the Globe Ranger
Station. Continue following signs to the Globe Ranger Station
for 1.6 miles to Icehouse Canyon Rd. (and Pinal Recreation Area
sign). Bear right onto Icehouse Canyon Rd. and go 1.8 miles to
stop sign (Forest Rt. 112 and 55 and Kellner Canyon Rd.). Turn
right onto Kellner Canyon Rd. (Forest Rt. 55) and go 2.9 miles to
the Pinal Mountain sign (Forest Rt. 651 and 55). Turn left onto
Forest Rt. 651 and go 10.3 miles to Pinal Mountain Recreation
Area. Although not signed, the Pinal campground sites begin
right after the sign and are located on both sides of Rt. 651.

NOTE: The access route turns into dirt 2 miles from the turnoff
onto Kellner Canyon Rd. and stays that way to the campground.
Forest Rt. 651 is single lane with turnouts.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 7,500 ft.

The campground is pack it in, pack it out. It is nestled in
heavily wooded, mature Ponderosa and White Fir pine. There are
some spectacular views of a valley and mountains from some of the
sites. The campground is an excellent location for hikers with
some ten different trail heads within a one-mile radius. The
Upper Pinal campground, with six sites, is located a short
distance east of Pinal on Forest Rt. 651.

Hikngrl, when on Friday you planning to go? It will be very good for me to join (if you don't mind), because I don't know the way. I mean we can follow you in our car on the way to destination place.

Where do you live in the valley Kerim? We were thinking of leaving our house here in the west valley around 1000. We will need to come up with a meeting place.

OK kerim. I will PM you and give you our address and we will meet and leave from here if that works for you. We will plan to leave from here at 1030 AM tomorrow morning and head to camp. Will probably stop for lunch some where on the way. Plan to have dinner at camp Friday evening. We will bring tarpage incase it rains. Better to be prepared then not.

Food will be like last time. Every one responsible for their own meals and if you would like to bring something to share for munchies you are welcome to. We will be bringing a veggie tray and some cheese and crackers to share.

Everyone make sure to bring plenty of water and ANYTHING else you may need to keep you comfortable. We are car camping after all.

If anyone needs anything, we have extra camping gear and can bring what you may need.

For hiking, we'll plan on taking the Sixshooter Canyon Trail 197, to the Telephone Trail 192 over to Icehouse Canyon Trail 198 back up to camp.

This is somewhere around 9 miles, I think.

OK, its been a rough couple of days and things keep falling apart! We are still going but probably wont be leaving the house until around noon today. So those who were to meet and drive up with us you have a couple hours reprieve! Sorry folks but the list goes on and on! so if anyone else gets up there before we do save some sites!

Ok, I'm signing up for hike only but I will be staying Sat night too

I'll plan on being there about 7 am Sat morning, does that sound early enough for you?

Same as you, have things blocking Fri, but if by chance I can leave early eve today, I'll text you or Todd and let you know I'm heading in.

But looking more like Sat morning right now, so plan that for me.

I'll bring something to share, not sure yet... but will figure something out before this evening. Just don't have myself together these days to be ahead of the game as in the past.

Sorry you won't be joining Tibber, would have been great to see you again. But understand the need to prepare for your trip. I may have a few questions for you that I'll ask about later.

Sorry you won't be joining either Tracy, haven't seen ya since last one in Apr/May?

Will be nice to see you Stan, haven't seen you in Ages ! and Emily is now all grown up or close to, will be nice to see her too

Hope you make it at least for Sat nite Trish, be nice to see you too. Know how that software stuff goes Shocked

Water hike in Aug? Ooooh going to check On-call now, so I know what I'm up against

Ok better get going and I'll see you in the morning

Dang! What a storm! Finished the hike and had a great time but soon to follow was a storm that is rocking the mountain top! We were hanging in the tent and were nice and dry but the thunder and lightning had Miss Ruby terrified and we weren't feeling incredibly safe either so we dashed to the truck where we remain. Hope the storm stops soon. I'm getting hungry and I need to pee!

Kerim, so glad you and your lovely wife could join us this weekend! It was very nice to meet both of you! Hope to see you out on the trail again! Just so you know, we don't always have so much trouble finding the trail! Luckily you missed the storm from the top of the mountain. Hope you didn't get hit too terribly bad on the way down! Join us again if we haven't scared you off!
