Trail Head: East Trailhead
The access road is not regularly maintained, and crosses Aravaipa Creek several times in the last 10 miles. High-clearance vehicles are recommended. Towing assistance is 50 miles away. Flash flooding can make the road impassable. Call ahead (928-348-4400) for road conditions.

From Phoenix (188 miles, 4.5 to 5 hours): Take US Highway 60 to Globe. At Globe, continue east on US Highway 70 to the Klondyke Road (8 miles past Ft. Thomas). Turn right onto this graded dirt road, go 24 miles to the "Y" intersection, turn right and go another 16 miles to the trailhead. From the trailhead parking and kiosk, it is a 1.5-mile hike through Nature Conservancy land to the east wilderness boundary.

Is there a specific time to meet up and are meeting at the TH? I'm a definite "IN" seeing as the weatherman is always wrong and a 20% chance of rain isn't that much. When I first saw the extended forecast is said 60% chance of rain and that got me a little worried. So I'm driving the gold X-Terra 2WD and taking Michelle & maybe Elizabeth with me. Bringing the THE PEEPS!!! I have room for one other if anyone else needs a ride.

Awww...Hope Lucy is doing better soon. We will miss you both !

Start time: Noon at TH ? or is that too late. This should allow for adequate time for folks in PHX to make it over there based on 4-5 hr drive time ?

Should we meet up in Globe & caravan from there ? If so what time works for everyone to meet in Globe ( Need a location ) ?

Could we all meet in Globe at Judy's Cook House at the junction of 60 and 188? at 8AM for breakfast? Judy's is up on the hill on your right after passing the Walmart. It's about 1 hour from Apache Junction. Maybe caravan from there?

I'm sorry I am going to have to cancel. For some reason I thought it was only for one night. Since it is for two nights, I had to then get another permit for Friday, which was only for day hiking for some reason.

But then I realized it is just too much on my plate. It is almost finals week, I have a big midterm this week and a paper to write, I have company coming on Thursday evening/Fri. morning, AND I have to drive to Eagar today and didn't plan to be back until Thursday morning. So, adding in Friday to the trip throws off my plan for the week, and I think my life will be a lot less stressful if I just bow out. Sorry to have to do this because I know it is going to be very fun.

On a positive note, Lucy is not feeling poorly but she has a viral condition that is very contagous when she is symptomatic and at this point she is syptomatic and we can't take the chance that some other idiot did that allowed Lucy to catch this. Something we will have to deal with for the rest of Lucy's life..... sucks but we can't change it now so we just deal with it. Thanks for your good wishes!

I'm trying to figure out finer points of logistics...and 'cause I'm not finding it on a quick scan of the site... What time are we planning on hiking out? Is there anyone else coming from Tucson? I'm willing to drive, but also happy to ride.

Oh, and keep your fingers crossed that I remember my camera this time Crazy

Sorry to hear it is a permanent condition for Lucy. Very unfortunate.
But glad to hear she isn't feeling poorly.

There was a mention of a meeting up somewhere in Globe to caravan. Is that something that is still in plan?

Just wondering.

Plan is to meet up on Friday AM at 8:00 am in Globe (do breakfast at Judy's Cook House). From there caravan to TH & hike in and camp.
Sat is do what you want -- One option is to hike up Hell Hole Canyon.
We exit Sunday by Mid day and head home.

Given the iccky weather forecast -- there is a good possibility of this becoming a Sat -Sun thing as well....We will see how things pan out. If we are doing Sat Sunday then -- General plan remains the same ; we will just be in there for a day less.

On Saturday I'll be day hiking Aravaipa East with a Sierra Club group so perhaps I'll run into some of you.

Interesting weather, eh? Well I'll check back here also for updates. I gave you a jingle back Ambika and left you a message.

Fir/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun or not at all...

Just have to play it by ear and see what goes, can't change Mother Nature... she has a mind All of Her Own and she'll do as she wants.

Well hello there Bill, just might see you if this pans out.

I don't want to influence the plans that are in place. You all are certainly prepared for a little wind and rain. Just camp high and be sure to stake your tents well Rolling Eyes However, I am totally out for Friday.

I could consider Sat/Sun if anyone is postponing by a day but even a bit wishy-washy about that---not because of the weather.

I have been officially grounded by the physical therapist. Crying or Very sad (Is that possible?) It's a long story but he does not believe backpacking is a wise idea and nearly passed out when I told them I had gone on a little hike in a canyon last weekend. I see the orthopedic surgeon today and hope to have some updated info.

Please keep me posted on the plans as they take shape.

I've been waffling back and forth with going on this due to the weather and know I won't enjoy myself being wet and cold. So I'm out. Already let Michelle know so she can make other driving arrangements.

Sorry to cancel last minute Embarassed

Be very careful out there for those still going.
