We chose a random Saturday to climb Picacho Peak, which was today. Upon returning home, learned the following and thought I would share:

Picacho Peak State Park will be closed for the summer season effective May 16, 2011. The Park will reopen September 15, 2011 for the cooler seasons. During this seasonal closure, the park will be closed to ALL public entry, including trails and roadways. Groups reservations can be made for the fall, winter, and spring months by calling the park. See you in the fall!

Most info on the web states the park is open year round. would be tragic to drive from phoenix just to be denied access.

If there is a way to save money i guess it is to make state parks seasonal. My only concern is the crazies that go in there to mess around and get hurt or mess up stuff. Hopefully they keep some of the Summer escapes open this year.

On the positive side: most of the parks are open at least part time. Lyman Lake opens June 17.
Oracle State park is closed and only open for certain private events.
