Dang, just talked with the backcountry office, that area is full. Sad

Another idea is to head up there on the 22nd and see what is available and take that....

Any thoughts on that approach?

Works for me.

Chin Scratching I'd kinda prefer to know where I'm heading ahead of time (leaving home prepared, water considerations, etc.) ... my spontaneous side is somewhat cautious. Rolling Eyes

what about a different weekend? dunno

I'll call the Backcountry office this afternoon and see what's open. South Canyon would be fun. I was also thinking about a couple nights at Cottonwood Creek, on the west side of Horseshoe Mesa. There are some interesting things in that area we could explore...

Oooh, this sounds fun! The last time I was at Cottonwood Creek there were gale force winds, rain, an aborted trip plan and snow on the hike out (sounds a lot like the Yuma Point trip! Wink )...it's definitely on the "Re-do" list!

Well, poop. Cottonwood Creek is full on the 22nd, as is South Canyon. Howsoever, I did have an idea! Hows about Shinumo Wash. This is a drainage that goes to the river just upstream from South Canyon, but comes in from the east, which means an hour or two less driving than South Canyon. I've been to the trail head a couple times, and even hiked a few miles down the route toward the river. It's an old, abandoned surveyors route that ends up on the redwall above the river. Downstream a quarter mile or so is access to the river. I've wanted to explore this area for quite a while, and I think we could have fun exploring this area too. There are definitely some interesting things to explore in the area.... Any interest in this?

Twenty-nine mile canyon area! If you have room, I'd be up for this too. I've not done any exploring up in the Marble Canyon area and this would be new ground for me too. Smile
