Utah Road Trip

Friend with new Jeep and I did 1200 miles in 4 days. Saw Arches, Bridges, Dead Horse State Park, Canyonlands, and had some great hikes and treks and found tons of rock art all over Utah. Been trying to do this for years. I would live in Moab. Loved it there. Soo much to see and will do this again for aat least 2 weeks. This beauty makes you humble and so thankfill to be alive. There are almost no words for it. A few pics in gallery.

Did you get to Escalante and Boulder? I was up there about a month ago. My son lives in Boulder. It was a nice trip, although I would have preferred to be able to set up camp for a couple of months up there. We hiked only a few short hikes, and then I had to go home.

Boulder is incredible. And there are plenty of easy backpacking trip around there, such as along the upper Escalante River. We did a day hike along there.

My son has been living there for about 5 or 6 months but plans to leave in winter. The jobs dry up in winter.

Glad you were finally able to get that trip into your schedule G! Utah is amazing. Been there for 2 weeks the last 4 years and STILL want to go back. Escalante is the BOMB!

Did you notice how the locals pronounce it? They call it Escalant. Also, there is Hurricane, Utah, which is pronounced something like Herkin. And there is the Sevier River, which they call Severe, or something like that.

Met some really nice folks who have lived in Boulder their whole lives. They have a beautiful log house in the middle of hay fields, with the big cliffs going up all around. When we visited them they were making elk hamburger to freeze, and they had a really nice big garden, too.

It would be hard to make it there year round but I can't blame my son for trying. I suspect he'll be back in AZ when it is too cold to live in an Airstream trailer. His job will end in winter, too.

I wish I had had a lot more time. We drove a ways down the Burr Trail and did a little hike along The Gulch. And the hike along the Escalante, too. And drove up Boulder Mountain for the views.

Anytime anyone going back,keep me posted. I will return. Definetly will do Escalante, but really dug Dead Horse.Would like to hike to the confluence in Needles(Canyonlands) and really missed out of the Firey Furnace hike which books up instantly and is Ranger led. Next time!

Lest some people think the whole place is overrun with tourists, think again. There are plenty of hikes where you will have the trail to yourself. Which is the way I prefer to hike.

Sounds fun! I don't know the any of the areas very well at all. Have been to Moab for bike races, to Grand Gulch for backpacking and to Boulder for visiting and day hiking.
