Next trip will stay in a motel or cabin in the White Mtns. Not sure if I will check out the communities in the morning or afternoon whith hikes/drives in the afternoon. Leaving late sat. or early sunday (more likely) and heading to Showlow/Pinetop/Lakeside for the day. Next day heading for Hawley/ Sunrise/ Greer area. Checking areas out for future camping trips.

Greer: West Fork Trail and East Fork Trail. Best directions to TH's are found in FS booklet available from Springerville RD or online. Also directions on HAZ, I think. I just hiked the East Fork Trail and it was gorgeous. It morphs into East Baldy trail after 7 miles or so. NOTE: In Greer, there are TWO East Fork Trails, and you have to find the one near the end of 373 that crosses the creek at the beginning and switchbacks up to the top of Amberon Point. See my posted route on HAZ!

West Fork Trail is off of Osborne Rd. near Rendezvous Diner. Drive up it about 2/10 of a mile and watch for kiosk on left where road curves to the right. There is room for one car to park. It morphs into West Baldy Trail after 6 miles or so.

Both trails used by mtn. bikers--they shuttle up to 273 and ride down.

Stayed in Showlow for a couple of days (motel) and cheked out the communites during the am then headed out for the afternoons and evenings. Visited and checked out camp grounds for future trips, Fools Hollow, Hawley Lake, Horseshoe Cienga, Sunrise, Hoyer and South Fork. Liked the ones on the Rez. Observed lots of deer, elk and antelope. While visiting one of the lakes at Greer had a mom and an offspring walk by me. Did not hike but took drives out onto the forest and had lunch and supper. Though at times it was quite windy the weather was good.
