I'm slowly recovering from the knee injury I did to myself a couple months ago. Awww Rats! I can now walk around without using a crutch, and even climb stairs (and I have this really cool scar on my knee nutty). I still have a lot of strength to regain, but it is fun to get out on the weekends and hike a few miles in the hills around here... Hiking

I think that the Canyon is a bit much for me right now, but it is really hard to stay away. I wonder if I could get a permit for the mile-and-a-half rest house? Rolling Eyes

Hank

Very Happy There is always the Maswik Cafeteria! You can walk around and get exercise while loading your tray!

Oh my Hank didn't realize you hurt your knee that badly. Sounds like it is getting better...slowly.
Take it easy and heal well and you'll be back out before you know it.

Off Crutches is GOOD.

Battle scars huh? Something to show off ! Laughing

Is it the steepness or the length of the hike? Try salt in marble--3 miles but some is steep. I used that one and the top part of north canyon when i was coming back to hiking. The north canyon is not steep and has nice water and shade--good recuperation place methinks.--mp

I'm heading down tomorrow to Cottonwood, they up the north side Tuesday. Mike and Lon at the Backcountry Office were real saints today. Knees are a bit sore from the 110 miles between Flag and here but can't stop now.

Right now the main issue is the strength in my knee. If I bend my leg very much, it'll collapse, so going downhill is really dicey. I can do a gentle downhill, but the steeper it gets, the smaller steps I have to take to be in control. However, each week I feel a bit stronger, and can tackle a little more challenging trails around here... But, I still miss the Canyon..

Hey, I put my permit request in this morning! First choice: Boucher-Hermit, because I haven't done Boucher. Put in a couple other choices as well. So we will see what I get.

I thought about putting in for N. Rim hikes, but doubt I will have time for a longer trip.

You'll like the Boucher, it's a great hike. I did part of it a few months ago (just to Yuma Point and back). Lots of choices for campsites too, either the Yuma Point site (great views!), the saddle at White's Butte, or Boucher Creek. Sounds like fun!!
