So Is this still an option given the fire(s) ? Anyone hip on status for this route ? I am thinking if Shultz Pass end is out -- we can do it as an out & back from the snow bowl end

As I sadly Crying or Very sad watched the news coverage I wondered about this and how much was destroyed. I wondered myself just where/how much would be in shape to do. May take a drive up one weekend to see where exactly we could hike. As you mention Ambika, maybe the SnoBowl hike would be an option.

Shawn thought about Hart Prairie also. I didn't hear anything about that, hopefully the fire didn't get close enough to do major damage there !

Very sad, luckily no one was hurt and homes not damaged. Hope this is the biggest fire that occurs this year and there are None or very few more. Wishful thinking maybe with the wonderful spring we had and all that new growth.

I have sent Shawn a panorama of the Schultz Fire I took from O'Leary Peak Lookout on Monday 6/28/10 at 10:00 am.... the fire had run it's course, cooled off, and you can see how severe the fire burned on that east side the first day or two. I also sent Shawn a progression map, and a forest closure map. I do not know when they will open the closure area, or change the closure area. The east side is nuked pretty good in places, and the Waterline Road Trail will have a danger of snags falling until they are cleared. The Kachina trail is unburned and will be hikeable as soon as they open the area for recreationists. Hopefully Shawn can figure out how to make the jpg's available to you all. No structures were lost.. a minor miracle. The monsoons are showing up... may rain today a bit.... don;t cross off your hike!.... the road to Snow Bowl is stiill open!

The Kachina Trail (amongst many others) has been reopened... go and enjoy your forest... Smile but watch where you throw your cigarette butts:

We have to check work weekends but I think Deanda and I might be able to go. Are there any plans on where to camp?

Some where along 151 given the fire on Shultz pass side. I think we will just have to see what is open as it gets closer but I am sure there is plenty of forest there where we can stay ....
