I've been hiking the AZT, have somewhere over 300 miles done. It's a trip of a lifetime!

I started March 15 at Sunnyside, made it to Manning Camp in the Rincons, then re-routed to American Flag Ranch because of deep snow in the Catalina's. Was at Sunflower Wednesday AM, took a night in town and headed north yesterday AM. A little after lunch my left ankle started to feel like the boot was too tight. I loosened the laces but it was clear that wasn't the problem. Made it to Peeley TH, and it was obvious that going on would be pretty unwise. Called Debbra and she came to get me (up that road in the DARK!).

Doctor says repetitive stress injury (precurser to a stress fracture), so I'm off the trail for 3-4-?? weeks. I know in the grand scheme of things this is pretty small potatoes, but $%&!()!

I'm trying to be adult about it.

Ouch! Bummer! I didn't know you were doing this! You picked a snowy year, but also a year with more running creeks! Hope you can get back out there soon. Would a different choice in footwear be something you'd look into?

So sorry to hear about your injury. Heal quickly and continue the journey. While you're healing maybe you could write up a little trip report...including pictures?

Hope you're back on the trail soon.

Linda

Absolutely, I have to do my pouting at home.

Sorry to see you are among the walking wounded as well. Or as we called ourselves in boot camp, the "sick, lame 'n lazy."

DITTO here!

So sorry to hear. I can only IMAGINE your frustration. So if you want to throw a tantrum, have at it; we can't blame you.

Meanwhile, take care!

PS. I'm enjoying my sunglasses... altho it's difficult when you're looking down through the magnifying part of them as to where to step. What has your experience been?

Thanks Angela for the kind thoughts, it really is frustrating, but I'll manage.

Ambika, the sunglasses discussion refers to some that I found that have magnification-like bifocal features, great for reading maps or GPS without swithing to regular glasses.

I don't have any problem seeing the trail with them, just tip my head a bit lower to see over the magnification part.

I'd run into Andrea Michaels a few weeks ago and she told me about you logging miles on the AZT. So sorry to hear about your set back.

That's the plan, it's improving remarkably, the trick will be to give it enough rest after all visible signs are gone. Once is enough.
