About 4 hours ago in Chicago a baby girl. Carys Avery, was born to my son, a blended European (Polish/Italian/Slovak) and his wife, a Taiwanese beauty. Carys came in to this world at 6 pounds 13 ounces about two weeks earlier than predicted. All went well and everyone is healthy. Carys is my first grandchild. I figure when she is ready to start hiking in a few years we will be going at the same speed for a while. That will be fun.
My son was in the delivery room and got to cut the umbilibal cord. That is not how we did it 38 years ago when I was in the waiting room where all us brave expectant fathers were and the baby was presented all cleaned up afterwards which was OK with me.
Anyway Carys is a Welsh name meaning "love".

Congratulations Joe!! Maybe when she's 18 or 20 she'll be able to hike faster than you, but not anytime soon!!! So... on what birthday will she be receiving a GPS?? |

I've been thinking about that. Will have to see if they sell a toy GPS that is safe in a crib. Get her used to the dispays and buttons early. _________________ Become a skilled GPS user and it will set you free! |

Congratulations are indeed in order, Joe. Whoohoo! Really adorable, too! Glad to hear your son was involved in the birth--that's the way we did it, too, good for him!
Our first g-baby is just a year and a half old and already she is an outdoors girl! So it can happen at a young age, don't have to wait until 18 or 20! I plan on taking her to the GC on a BP trip when she's about 8 or 10. |
