Wow, I know I have a reputation as a thread killer, but has that extended to the whole site? I posted yesterday at 8:45 AM and no one has posted since. Is it Manifest Destiny or what? _________________ ;o)> |

It's the dog days of summer, everyone is lethargic and tired, well, I am anyway. I'm looking to escape for Labor Day weekend or the whole week. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

And when was the last time you frequented the site Stan?
Oh yeah, the last time all the threads got killed.

I've been wondering the same thing. I posted a bunch of trip logs awhile back. Nothing spectacular, but some pretty photos. Didn't seem to generate any interest, though. Oh, well. Can't win em all.
Up here, summer is winding down--and no dog days. It's chilly in the mornings, and right now at 6:30 pm I am wearing jeans and a sweatshirt and have a space heater going, although the sun is still up. It was nice and warm during midday, but it does cool off fast in the evenings now. My coworkers are still whining about the "heat," which to locals means any temperature over 75. Me, I am thinking about last year, when we went to Yuma for the winter. That was fun, but we can't afford it this year. I am a girl of summer. I like the warmth. I want out of here in winter! The only thing I like about winter is skiing. And you can't do that 24/7.
We had a lot of rain this week and everything in town is still very green. It'll be the last hurrah, and then fall will be here very soon. Tour of the White Mtns. bike race, a few fall leaves, and then it's all over after that. Cold, drab, colorless, and windy.
I hiked Flat Top today, and it's about as green up there as it ever gets! A few new signatures in the hiker's register at the top. |

I have been guiding hikes for SAHC. I am a tech idiot so don't know how to post pictures on this website. It's been hit and miss. One hike to "The Crack" in Sabino Canyon had 10 on it, the next I called " Lemmon Creek Explorer" had 2 hikers ,but we had a blast since we were kindred spirits. The past hike to Carr Peak this past Saturday when it rained had zero. I soloed and went to Gardener Canyon which I imensely enjoyed!
I have been posting pictures on facebook. _________________ Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. - Rachel Carson |

We camped last Saturday and Sunday night in your neck of the woods Elizabeth. It was our first time at Big Lake. Set up a hummingbird feeder which was quickly adopted by a pair of broad tailed hummers. They fended off all comers. At one time there were 5 hummers buzzing about. Also saw an Osprey pass overhead and then a sharp shinned hawk took a short rest break in a tree beside our tent. Passed a flock of 8 turkeys going into the lake and saw a herd of about a dozen pronghorn heading towards Showlow on the way back. It rained more than not and on Sunday night lightning struck a tree about 30-40 feet away as I was cooking supper by our tent. Overall it was a decent time. _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |

Hey, AZhiker96 did you hike the Indian Springs loop that is right next to Big Lake? Also there are spurs off of it to Big Lake Tower and West Fork Black River, and on to Thompson. From Crescent Lake there is also the Overland Trail, but it is more of a mtn. bike trail, very wide. |

No, after a long hard couple of weeks at work we were there for rest. The most effort I made was trying to light some wet firewood. Mainly, I sat with a cup of ice, diet coke, and a small flask of Appleton Estate rum. Oh, and I walked the dogs a little around camp. _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |

Have two girls that left for the area today for a couple of days camping and fishing, though one took her mtn. bike and the first camping trip in a popup for one of them. |

Colder nights right now, so extra blankets advised for kids. |

Yes, extra blankets or maybe dogs. Our three dogs shiverred until empathy allowed them access to our inflatable bed and sleeping bags. Deanda got little Taz and I had both Maggie and Ginger on my side. Now I know what it feels like to sleep in a dogpile. It's warm but hard to turn over at night. _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |
