Memorial Day weekend brough some beautiful monsoon clouds and I wanted to see the Saguaros blooming, family was in town so a roadtrip met all our different objectives ...

We followed up a visit to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in the morning with a drive down to the East Unit of Sagurao National Monument down in Tucson.

It was a beautiful day to be out there with the monsoon clouds playing hide n' seek amid the stately saguraos against the backdrop of the Rincons.

We met a few critters along the way ....

Late afternoon brought some dramatic skies - a perfect foil to the majestic giants ...

The evening light was wonderful.

We stayed to see the sunset from Javaliena Rocks ( best place on this loop drive to see sunset)

The blooms were quite a bit past prime ....so another trip another year!

your prairie dog(or round tail ground squirrel) picture is precious! Looks like they are whispering secrets.

Nice pictures. How did you get so close to those Round Tail Ground Squirrels?
