Tomorrow morning I'm going in for a total thyroidectomy. Deanda will be there and they are planning on keeping me overnight. It will just knock me out of hiking for a couple or three weeks is all so I don't consider it a big thing for my hiking life which is why I haven't posted it before today. Now if I was having a leg removed, then you would have seen a thread about it by now, asking for advice on how to transition from hiking to hopping. Or maybe I'd have to look for a group, Arizona hoppers; not to be confused with Arizona hiphoppers who I think break dance on the trails.
Anyway, here's the short version. I've had Hashimoto's thyroiditis and taken synthroid daily for 13 years. I've also had a needle biopsy done several times. Late last year my PCP felt a lump in my thyroid. We did an ultrasound, iodine uptake study, and followup ultrasound. I got referred to a endrocrinologist and general surgeon. The endocrinologist would like it looked at by a pathologist. Since a pathologist won't fit in my neck, we're having the thyroid taken out. It's something like >95% chance that it's benign but having it out will eliminate the worry and settle the matter.
I'll see you on the trails.

Surgery is never much fun. Hope the nurses are cute, they give you lots of good drugs, and especially that you recover very quickly!

Speedy recovery there George. I'm sure you will heal quickly and be out on the trails in no time. And you know lots of nurses, so I'm sure they will be fighting over who is gonna take care of you. Wink

Darn it, I won't be at work to mess with him today. George, Dr. Rula wants us to put a foley catheter in right now...just relax.

I could have brought in my daughters fake tattoos and put them on him, or color his toenails pink before he woke up.
