For reasons that none of us will ever be able to understand or explain, unexpected pre-surgical complications arose on March 3, 2009 and our friend John Richardson, Hooli, made the walk across Rainbow Bridge to spend the rest of his eternity with his beloved dogs Star, Lady, Bo, Dew (the original Hooligans) and Strider.
We realize that this comes as a shock, and a million questions come to mind, but please understand that we don’t have any answers. We do know that everyone did the best they could to help Hooli, but in the end, undoubtedly the old curmudgeon is where he always knew he would be…just this side of heaven, in a place called Rainbow Bridge. Rest in peace, our friend.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

I don't even know where to begin in expressing my condolences to everyone that knew and loved our friend Hooli. I had just PM'd him on Monday and promised to visit on an upcoming trip...

My heart aches to know that he isn't with us any longer. The only comfort is that he is with his beloved dogs.

Rest In Peace Hooli. You are already missed.

Although I didn't know Hooli personally, I was looking forward to meeting him at the Aniversary , but he didn't make it camping.
I wish all who knew him peace.
He's up there with Frank Royball a member from SAHC who recently passed on, swapping hiking tales.

Well, that sucks.

Does his family know about this group and the friends he has here? I recall him mentioning his daughter.

Wow that is shocking news... Although I did not know him, I am sure he will be greatly missed by all that did.

When I first met him the first thing he said was "Hooli gets hugs" --- here is another hug for you, Hooli, and your family. RIP. Condolences to all of you who were close to him.

I saw this thread earlier and passed it, a friend text'ed me the heads up. So sorry to hear the news. I knew He was having some health issues, but I was thinking a bad elbow and not this.

I hope Richie Rich is in good hands as I'm sure that would be Hooli's main concern. R.I.P. John.

Rich is doing fine. He's going back to Michigan next week with his original owners.
