I thought there was already a thread on this from years past, but I couldn't find it.

Anyway, I received my dividend today. $43.79. Apparently I spent $670 at REI last year. I don't remember any of it.

I hope I can use this online; there is no REI close to me now. Come to think of it, I don't live near anything fun or cool. Crying or Very sad

I will happily spend that dividend for you if you don't have a way to use it. Laughing

Most likely you can spend it on-line.

I could use it for my new (double) sleeping bag if you don't donate it to Suze.

Laughing

BTW Do you have any recommendations for double-sized zippable sleeping bags? Brands, styles?

I think Big Agnes has that. I could use that dividend too! I don't think I spent a dime at REI last year, maybe on a pair of pants.

my 2¢- buy mateable bags. much more versatile and in the long term, a better choice. REI kilobags will work together... or if you want the best in the business, any Western Mountaineering Bag will zip together. (exept the highlite)

Thanks for the advice!

I'll check both those brands out.

sorry, you wont find WM bags at REI. But the Marmot Helium and Hydrogen are fine substitutes.

Thanks, I'll look all of those up...I'd like to find a good double-zipping bag for John and me before Mid-March, if possible.

What are some of the best features to look for in a double bag??

What are some good lightweight ground pads?

Is that hammock you show an invention of yours?

Is it difficult to get in and out of in the middle of the night?

hun, if there was anything wrong with a hammock, I wouldnt use it.
they are superior to tents in almost every way, not popular yet, but they will be.
no, i did not invent that style of hammock. it has been around for years. i did however make everything in that picture, save for the hiking poles Smile
heres a pic. the one in the back is a commercially available from Jacks'rBetter - the camo in the foreground is mine, all homemade. im not very fond of the red but it makes a great signal blanket if im lost! http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/IMG_0464.sized.jpg

anyway, most bags are made with a ykk #5 zipper. get a left and a right bag, mate them together. when you go solo, you dont have to carry a double bag. Double bags, IMHO, are not worth much.

*back on topic, im gettin a measley $5 refund. on a positive note, ive been using a code at backcountry.com to save 40% on anything (and Im going broke! haha)

So, you just need strong cords, strong trees, and you can just scoot out one end easily, and the overhead cover in case of rain, and a place to put your extras...interesting. Wink

It solves many problems that a tent can't...but how to use it and carry the parts for a lightweight desert 'hover hammock' (when it can't be tied to anything)...let's invent something and make a bundle! Idea

May the force be with us in this impending recession...I hate to even mouth the words.

Hmmmm...the electromagnetic ~Hover Hammock~

LOL Mr. Green I got zero back from REI this year. With the economy the way it is, I chose to #1 use my existing gear and #2 not to spend any additional $$ on gear that I'd love to own but can't afford at this time. I DO have a wish list though.
