All this literary talk has me thinking. Why don't we start a nature poetry thread and see who's got the muse? I'll contribute!

Hi,
I am new in this forum and enjoyed reading your comments.
A few years ago, my wife, Helge, and I spent a glorious spring Easter week in Tucson. It was one of the most spectacular springs for dessert flowers due to abundant winter rains. We had never been there before.
On one of our day hikes above Tucson, we stretched out under the sun in a beautiful place with the sound of wind and water and the melodies of the many birds.
I was thinking how fortunate I was and looked at my beautiful wife of 42 years next to me, the wind blowing through her hair and her beautiful green yes looking up at the blue sky overhead. I realized that our affection and romance had ever grown over those years to new heights --- but there had been many oife struggles along the way.
I grabbed a pen in our little back pack and a slip of paper and jotted down a poem without a draft --- I am not a poet and was surprised what appeared on the paper.
After reading your comments, I re-read that poem today and looked up some terms on the Internet which were all new to me --- "Internal rhymes, metaphors, parallellism and prepenation." I guess you are familiar with those terms.
Here is the poem I scribbled that glorious day on that piece of paper:

Abound, surround,
surrounding sound,
The sound around,
the soul I've found,
The bliss --- I'd miss,
abyss that'd be,
A kiss from Heaven,
my Helge, She.

We sought, we fought,
aye, lesson taught,
So ought it be,
what we have sought,
And so aglow,
we two aflow,
Toe on toe,
without a woe.

Wow! I commend you for having someone special in your life for that long.

I heard recently of an Aikido principle...that until there is conflict, there is no relationship.

How many times do we take a good look at our conflicts as a way of getting to know each other more profoundly?

I hear a lot of internal rhyme in your poem and message, as well. Cool

You wrote: If you have the inclination to post your poetry about your experiences in nature, I'm interested in reading it.

Last week I sent you a little poem which I scribbled on a note while hiking with my wife above Tucson.

Here is another one I scribbled on a little piece of paper. My wife and I had landed at Beef Island Airport in Tortolla and had five hours to kill until our little single engine plane was to leave for Anegada (Are you familiar with Max's little camp site on Anegada? That's a whole nother story). So, anyway, we walked out to the tip of Beef Island and stretched out on the clean white sand, under the towering, majestic, waving green palms, with the deep blue sky overhead, meeting with the blue horizon, and at the same time listening to the little white waves breaking on the sandy beach right nearby. So here is what I scribbled on that little piece of white paper.

Seeking, reaching, vibrant green,
towering, empowering, yet serene;
Up to where the deep enclosing,
blue and still and not imposing;
Down to blue on blue below,
rising, falling, white in flow;
Green to blue --- the blue to white,
instills, engenders, all that’s right.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Wrong the fallen, cut and ground,
asphalt, pavement, all around;
Blue to gray, the gray to pitch,
for just the greedy, blinded rich;
The endless scorn, the sad forlorn,
just empty, torn, forever mourn;
We cry, beseech, when all was right,
life’s green on blue and blue on white.

The rhythm of the waves is felt within your poem...as well as the sadness of earth's desecration...keep scribbling on those little papers.

That's porridge good!

Cool

peripatetic

PRONUNCIATION:
(per-uh-puh-TET-ik)

1. An itinerant

From Latin peripateticus, from Greek peripatetikos, from peripatein (to walk about, to discourse while pacing as did Aristotle), from peri- (around) + patein (to walk). Ultimately from the Indo-European root pent- (to tread) that also gave us words such as English find, Dutch pad (path), Hindi path (path), French pont (bridge), and Russian sputnik (traveling companion).

"With his back to goal in a crowded space, the peripatetic Frenchman [Nicolas Anelka] deftly chipped the ball over his shoulder, and into the net for the equalizer."

First one to write a poem using this word "peripatetic"
and embodying the spirit of this azhiker site and its personalities, interests, motivations, sympathies, and reveries gets 30 points! (It must be 12 lines long and have a rhythm and a rhyme scheme)

I would like to be more peripatetic
But my attempts at this are kind of pathetic
I'd also like to be more poetic
But as you can see
I need a prosthetic.

When I go hiking I'm quite frenetic
When I get home I take an emetic
I don't have twelve lines yet
Hope you're empathetic.
Three more lines to go; it's pathetic
I'm repeating words
Ah, thought of one more: diuretic!

Mr. Green

(No, I didn't use a rhyming dictionary--don't have one!)

Fish food

Little fishy in the water, wants his early morning snack
Me and my girl swimming 'round there, suddenly he bites her back!
It's your space, okay, we know, all we wanted was a wash
Little fishy, won't you relent, find some other place to nosh?

I like it Big John!

There was an old man from Hanksville.
Who'd always leave without his gas tanks full.
Got stuck in the sand.
None to lend him a hand.
For all I know he is out there still!

Ok I think they're neat, too, but hey, are you guys gonna try to use the word "peripatetic" in a poem, as MerMuser suggested? I can write limericks all day, but writing one with "peripatetic" in it is not that easy. But actually, MM's challenge was to write a 12-line poem. I wrote one in 5 minutes, (see above) but it was just a silly one. Anyone want to try a serious one?
