Are you talking about HAZ? Because we still talk about that stuff on HAZ and it seems to be ok. Sometimes it gets a little heated, but then it sort of dies down, then it pops up again. I think it's sort of fun.

However, if you are going to limit these topics, please do allow discussion of environmental issues, trail access, public lands, fees, non-motorized vs. motorized problems, and other issues pertinent to hiking and other outdoor pursuits.

Yes, I was talking about HAZ. It got pretty nasty over there six years ago, so nasty that it was one of the reasons Joe shut HAZ down the first time. That's why we have this site now.

As far as I am concerned, folks can talk about pretty much what they want to on here, politics being one of the exceptions.

Speaking of which, Cardinals won! 29-24! 4 game lead in the NFC West!

My main problem with this site, by the way, has to do with several of my friends have signed onto here only to be either beat up or totally ignored by AZH regulars.

Definitely not a positive thing and I'm sorry to hear that.

I had a totally different take on that situation, though. When I moved down here a couple years ago, I found this to be one of the more welcoming communities I've come across in a long time and have not (yet) received one hostile or otherwise malicious response. I have nothing but glowing things to tell folks back in NM or CO about this community.

Go check out some of the other hiking/climbing sites out there across the country. Look at their forums and see how heated and nasty people get about anything and everything. People here tend to treat each other with a greater deal of respect than some other prominent hiking forums.

I have to second that. I have been very impressed with how welcoming and pleasant everyone was for a newbie to join the group.

Todd, because of your position in this community, the meaning of your post isn't clear to me. Do you mean that you won't allow anyone to post anything that could be construed as political in the future or that it's your opinion that we shouldn't?

Yeah, that's why I stay around. I have fun on here. I have met most of the folks on here at least once, but mostly we just chat online. However, this was not the experience of my three friends.

So you had 3 friends on here that were harassed and ran out of town? I haven't seen that many heated debates on here in 3 years. Chin Scratching

I'm not trying to say what people can and cannot say here. I have moderated people privately as well as made general public-directed posts as a moderation to get folks to behave decently as a community. If someone wants to post something political in nature, then I have no issues there. It's when the discussion becomes nasty and people begin to complain is where the problem begins.

My job here is difficult, I want to try to keep things in order while letting the community self-administrate. You have no idea how many hundreds of things I have wanted to post about subjects - firearms, politics, public affairs, animal husbandry etc. but have not because I have wanted to remain as a neutral party/site admin so that I can hopefully have a site that has a happy member population while still keeping them interested and not let anyone think I am a gun-crazed, liberal that likes Arpaio and rolls in goat poop for fun.

But folks are so fickle - a member lets me know that there are not enough group activities for the site and then never attends any, a member complains that members were attacked in a post after attacking members in a post, a member complains that there aren't enough local activities to keep folks coming out and then suggests an outing to the Corn Palace, a member states we are too friendly, another says we're too hateful, one member says we're too silly, another member say we're too serious, one member is mad with another member because they brought a side dish instead of a main course, one member never brings beer, one member always has beer, the list goes on. People will be people and that all there is to it and I can't do anything about it. I will keep an eye on things and moderate as I see fit and that may not be enough for some, so I expect the other moderators and admins to do so as well.

I say post what you're interested in posting, if the community doesn't like it then you'll find out quickly enough and hopefully we can all get along here. If I want to fight, I can get that at work, just ask Mickey. Wink

I hope I haven't offended anyone or altered your views of the site or myself here. If I have offended you, I am sorry.

Actually Todd, that's what I was hoping to hear from you; that we can talk about what's on our mind at any given time, as long as we're considerate and respectful of each other.

As for all of the other stuff that people write to you about... sheesh!! They just need to grow up and understand that you're not their "daddy" and that you can't make everyone "behave" all of the time!

As for the community activity level... I only wish that I were there often enough to organize and lead a few adventures!

I'm only speaking for myself (but I'm sure that others feel the same); I greatly appreciate that you've provided us this wonderful "community" through which many, many friendships have evolved.

I voted "pumpkin no" 'cause it was already used; It's damned hard for any administrator or moderator to decides what's acceptable and what's not. I've been chewed out by regular members for ignoring personal attacks and then chewed out by others for locking the same! Talk about rock and a hard place!
Suz is right, she didn't send e-mail on this particular topic; she is a good watchdog for links to porn sites and porn postings and other links or posts that don't belong. I block those as soon as I learn of them. It seems like every topic that gets into guns or politics is gonna end up with someone making a personal attack on another poster.....then the fight begins. I'm sick of it 'cause whatever I do is gonna piss off someone! Is that so hard to understand?
From now on you can call each other mother pumpkin, stinkin' mugrat, new and improved taste, rich mahogany veneer or any other profanity you can come up with! Go for it, 'cause hooli no longer gives a poopie!
And Todd, looks like you need to come up with some other euphemisms!

For now, I'm gonna take my drugs and go to bed 'cause pumpkin elbow is hurting like hell.

Well, 3:05 a.m..........no comments......guess you folk don't like to debate controversial issues. OK, Let's talk sex.......whoops, (another subject I'm not currently familiar with these days. Love to work on it, but so far TS.....short for Hard Luck back IN The golden years....or so I've been told )
Any way you look at it we have a new CINC for at least the next four years.....Fight, argue, debate.....call each other and your ancestors names, that's it. We can work together or we can get down and dirty......which path you gonna chose? Turning AZH, a HIKING WEB SITE, into a battle ground ain't gonna do diddly squat. So pumpkin it.....call each other SOB's, Mother pumpkin, and I for one ain't gonna bother to lock or delete or debate it. Most of you folks know each other better than I do, so who am I to argue.
Well, drugs are wearing off, so back to more pillsl....or sleep.....which ever comes first.

Have a nice day!

BTW
Richie Rich posted all of the above, so you're pissed, let me know and I'll make him do with sirloin instead of filet in the a.m.

Now, that's more like the REAL Hooli! Wink

I think I'll have to PM the moderator and complain, though, because I saw a "bad" word in there. OH, my poor lil eyes. Wink

Oh, what? It IS the moderator talking?

But Hooli, how do you really feel? Very Happy

I don't think that most of us want people being vicious towards one another. Sometimes a thread gets a poster or two who go off the deep end, but it's rare and that's where the moderators, IMHO, should get involved.

We've now talked more "about" the subject of political posts than we've actually "had" political posts in the past 4 years!!

You be surprised.......I think I know why IGO left and it was for a reason few of us would have taken as rude or insulting; but each of us has our own interpretations as to what we feel is rude or insulting.
