Yeah I don't think Venice has changed much in the last 100 years or so. It's just nice to be back and traveling again. Only 19 months left here and still a whole lot of stuff to see, not to mention hike.

Got to take a trip to Zurich, Switzerland over the Thanksgiving break. Almost didn't make it there when we hit a freak Blizzard an hour from the house that we sat parked on the freeway for an hour and a half. Traffic cleared and the snow stopped so we continued. Here are some pics:

Finally brought out a tripod for a few night pictures, still need to learn how to use my Canon DSLR though, just using auto settings at the moment.

Winter finally arrived to the mountains next to the base. Made it up there a few times this week. I'm working 11pm to 7am so I have the luxury of being able to go after work and get some play time in.

Got in a 10k X-Country Ski on day

A snowshoe with Jen another day, went about a mile and gained about 500', was trying to climb to a saddle I want make in igloo at. Had to break ground the whole way in 1-3' of snow, post-holing deep even with snowshoes.

Me and the tracks I've made the last two days, hope they get some use, I don't feel like breaking trail again on this 1400' climb.

Can't forget the car that gets me everywhere, need snow chains to get up the mountain but it does it. Spun out on the way home too. Then got out to adjust the snow chain on the way down since a piece started hitting the inner fender. Had the e-break on but the thing still started sliding on me while parked, had to run around the car while moving, hop in and steer away from the guardrail it was trying to hit. Would have been hilarious to witness, I didn't find it too funny at the time. How does a parked car slide down a hill?

It is a pretty hilarious mental image, I agree, but glad you guys and that Civic are ok. Send some of that snow out this way!

Went snowshoeing again, this time to build an igloo.

It's a work in progress but starting to look like it could work after 2 hours of building.

Not yet, only had about 2 hours before it was getting dark, hoping to go back Tuesday morning to try and finish it. Maybe an overnight stay in 2 weeks. We are headed to Paris this weekend.

Figured I was falling behind on this and it was time to update it again. in December we took a quick getaway to Paris, thank to Ryanair and $64 in plane tickets, roundtrip, for 2 people. Now granted that was the cheapest thing of the whole trip, but it made it possible to go there.

We stayed near the Arc de Triomphe.

Tomb of the unknown soldier below the Arc.

Looking down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées all decorated for the holidays, note taking pictures in the middle of the road is not always recommend.

At the Louvre musuems:

Ice skating near the Eiffel Tower:

View from the top of the Eiffel Tower on a cold day:

For those wanting to practice their rope work I recommend a job of painting the tower:

Inside the Galeries Lafayette, it's a 10 story department store decorated for the holidays:

We also took a day trip from Paris to Versailles. Below is the Château de Versailles:

View of the hall of mirrors, the same spot where they signed the treaty of Versailles, ending WWI.

Beautiful gardens that wander for miles, a popular running area as well.

There was also a special firework event at Marie Antoinette estate. Little did we know we would be walking 3 miles through the gardens at night to get there.

If your ever in Paris a day or half day trip to Versailles is highly recommend, it's only about 30 minutes from Paris by train.

We were planning on heading out of town but got some snow so decided to hop on the train to Venice instead.

We took a boat taxi to the Island of Murano which is famous for blown glass.

A large glass sculpture.

Since out igloo didn't work out to well we opted for staying in one someone else built. This is up on a small ski resort in Slovenia about two hours from home. Snowbiking, tubing down ski runs, fondue dinner, a sauna and a night in an igloo on an snow bed to top it off.

With some guidance from Matt finally started trying to take some photo's for HDR's this week.

3 quick morings of shootings and a couple hours on the computer and I think I got some good results already. You be the judge.

And my favorite one so far:

Tim all the pics are beautiful. Glad you & Jen are seeing so much while you are there. You will have some lots of awesome memories and photo's !

That igloo looked pretty cool. Snow and Ice can be an insulator, was it somewhat warm inside to sleep? And the snow bike looked Fun too!

I like your early morning shots You did Good! Ok
What kind of camera are you using? All the pics look Great!

The last one reminds me of home when I was a kid looking out the back door (that is before all the trees were planted)

Very Nice and thank you for sharing your experiences, trips and photo's

Looking at these, I've got to figure a way to get some free time, plan a trip and get! Rolling Eyes
