Maybe a bit more of a look at bureacracy than you care for, but some of us might see ourselves in this report. If nothing else, it highlights the dangers anyone in the back country, or not so back country, faces on public lands. BLM and NPS took the brunt of this one, but I've seen the same thing many times on National Forest.

I'm going to support Darwinism and say "leave the mines alone!" You can all laugh about the irony of that statement when I'm on the news, after having fallen in a mine myself.

Oops! I didn't mean it the way it reads. I have not fallen in a mine. What I meant was, "when I do, you can laugh at me."

I scanned this report, they talk about mines that are "ant traps" where the shaft has caved in to the point there is a deep cone-shaped hole with the shaft dropping out of the bottom. Jackson Mine in the Galiuro's is such a mine, get the hebe-jebies just thinking about it. If you ever started down, there's nothing to grab on to.

I thought there was a tentative plan to fill these with old tires or something. Was that scrapped? I realize it would take a bunch of tires but a start anyway.

Would'nt that be a fire hazard! Them tire dumps burn for years when they ignite...

Tires are not good for the ground water.
