Very cool threedogz! I think I'll try to ride some of that over Labor Day weekend. Nice pictures!

Full suspension needed or can you get by with a hard tail ? Did you ride with your camping gear ? Thinking my next camping trip I may use my hardtail for the camping trip.

I have a full suspension bike, my husband has a hard tail. I didn't have camping equipment (just a larger backpack than usual), we set up camp near the trail and we drove to one portion on one day with the people on the horses to do maintenance as well. The other days we rode our bikes from the campsite which is just off the 611 FR.

It can be done with a hard tail. Some hills were a little steep, but mostly loose rock/gravel was the culprit of discomfort, trying to bike uphill with tires spinning over rocks and going nowhere.

I use a hardtail with panniers and a hydration pack for camping. May be difficult with a full suspension to use panniers though I have seen it done. For vehicle camping, I still may take the road or mtn. bike but more often the mtn. bike. I enjoy the area between Clints Well to Flagstaff and the Mogollon Rim Lakes.

Someday I am going to get started on this trail. Maybe get a team together and just plain the trips out. Try and do the hole trail but in small weekend (or extended weekend) segments. Not sure if I would hike it all or do a combo of hike some and MT bike some.

Anyone interested?

We started building the route from Snow Bowl north this weekend. Followed after the 4 foot wide bulldozer trying to make a trail out of what it left. The sod there is 6 inches thick so that had to be pitched out, then try to form soil the consistency of flour into something. I'm sure after some rain it will settle and become a trail. Got in on building a rock retaining wall too.

I'd be game for some long weekend trips up north starting maybe in Sept, everything till then is booked. And A guy on HAZ started this last winter but then disappeared.
