This is definitely an interesting list of "must read" books for men.

I don't agree with some of the choices, but I have to say that I'm rather awe-struck by the fact that I haven't read nearly 90% of the books listed - but I have heard of nearly all of them.

Guess I'm just not a "Classic Literature" kind of guy. However, I did note that the authors are certainly Teddy Roosevelt fans (which will garner hearty nods of approval from me), and they also seem to be partial to Fyodor Dostoevsky (one of the authors I've never read).

So - what would you add/take-away from this list - and why?

Very good list. I've read many of those books myself. Hatchet is even on my list of must reads for my older students. I was also glad to see the Bible on that list. I would add:
I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb
It's a great book about brothers
Linda Hall

Interesting list. I've read several, but by no means most of the books on the list. Glad to see that some good outdoors books are in there.

thanks for the link Jared. I have read many of those great novels. Im especially fond to see titles like "Atlas Shrugged" make the cut. Of course it would. Looks like a good list for Women as well.
What I think was missing from the list were "Desert Solitaire" and the "Dark Tower" series. Specifically the "Wolves of the Calla".

OK, now that is an interesting list. I've read 36 of them, and was surprised by many on the list.

Jared, if you haven't read it, I would think that you'd enjoy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces....it was published by his mother after he died...an interesting story to say the least.

I left out "touching from a distance" by Deborah Curtis. A true look into the life of one of our generations best songwriters- Ian Curtis, of Joy Division. THis is the stuff every music fan should be reading. It is the written equivalent of Husker Du's "Zen Arcade".
Forget Walk the Line, Johnny Cash was boring. (is still one of my faves tho)

another good one, I think is Waldon by Thoreau. I cant believe its not in there. If it is, I must have overseen.

How could "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest not make that list!" Also, "In cold blood"?

I would think a Cook Book and a Rand McNally road map was sure to make the list... Laughing
