Ooh! Pretty!!

I hardly ever use a filter, but I think I'd like to replace my Katadyn Hiker Pro with one of these.

Yep, I've got one. Works pretty well, and it's tiny. Filled a liter Nalgene in about 30 secs first try.
According to the manual it takes a bit of care and maintenance to keep pumping like new.
Also, make sure you keep it in your sleeping bag when it's close to freezing outside, or the filter fibers can get damaged.

Use GHVKM2 online for 15% off until 4/30. Ship free to REI of your choice.

Umm...because it's fun. Besides, when it's time to leave this world, you can't take your money with you. You might as well enjoy it! Very Happy

I've been waiting for this one to hit the stores. I think I will have to pick it up this week. Thanks for the coupon HIG, very nice! Should only cost me like $20-30 with my dividend from last year.

Been doing the Aqua Mira and a little bleach thing for about a year or so now: have several filters sitting on my shelf. Pretty spoiled, light, takes up no room and I don't mind waiting the 20+ minutes and I don't really taste the chemicals at all. Usually better than tap water here.
Use a mesh ditty bag to screen nasties out.

Wow, has it been 2 years since you've hiked or backpacked? My, how time flies.

Shouldn't that go more like "I'd rather crap than use it now..."?

I have found that at camp, or if you have time to chill, wait for the AM to do its business (about 15-30 min) and then open your container because the CLO2 will form a gas and slowly release from the water. I notice the chlorine taste, but just barely.

this filter has a fawning crowd and should sell well. It looks like a decent product-
There are some drawbacks... of course...A rep for Cascade designs (MSR) stated that the Hyperflow does not have a carbon stage in the filter. “The new HyperFlow doesn't contain a carbon component which means that it won't take out contaminates (pestisides, etc.) and any bad tastes in the water.”
The advertised weight of 7.8 oz is wrong. The actual weight of the filter, hose, bottle adapter and storage sack is 9.6 oz
Just thought Id give these pointers that might help you make a final decision.

here's my $.02 for what its worth: if Im going to save just a couple of ounces and maybe 1-2 minutes off my nightly filtering chore, its just not worth $100 to me. And if a filter doesnt remove heavy metals, pesticides, and chemicals, then it is no more effective than Aquamira. Both are designed to only remove live protozoa and bacteria. So for 3oz and $11, Im going to stick to the AM route.

Good points, but I just feel better filtering out as much crap from the water as possible before I add the Sweetwater drops which I use pretty regularly.

The cap adapter is what adds the weight to the whole Hyperflow setup. If you can ditch that for a trip, it's a pretty light little rig.
