This photo was taken by my boss out her upstairs window last week in Eagar AZ. What happened was that the melting of the ice caused the first batch of icicles to slide around to horizontal. Then new icicles formed. She told me that some little birds had been sitting on the horizontal ones, but they flew away when she stuck her head out the window.
