So with the many gear related items that you've made, accumulated, found or bought throughout 2007, what would you say had to be your favorite?
Mine has to be my Caldera Cone Stove designed by Trail Designs -
http://www.traildesigns.com/
It's a very efficient alcohol cooking system that is very light and squeezes a lot of performance out of a simple stove/cone system. I bought mine through AntiGravityGear http://www.antigravitygear.com/ and found them to be very helpful and quick to ship. I've used it on two separate multi-night trips and have been very happy with it. So what's your favorite for 2007?

I've used a "Pepsi" can stove for a few years and love it. Looking at this cone design I'm thinking I might need to upgrade! |

My favorite piece of gear from this year is probably my Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo. Less than two pounds for a shelter that will fit me and my 7 year-old with some room to spare!
Lunar Solo
They just released a couple new shelters that are even lighter and bigger, but I'll probably stick with this one for awhile. [/url] |

Hands down it was the Aquapac waterproof camera case. It saved my camera a few times in Zion Narrows.

I haven't really bought all that much (yeah right) in 2007, just little things to complement my current set-up. So right now I would have to say it would be my Olympus Stylus 770SW camera.

Shockproof. Waterproof. Freezeproof. Crushproof. Introducing the world's most durable digital camera — the Olympus Stylus 770 SW. You can drop it (from 5ft), dunk it (to 33ft), freeze it (-10°C/14°F) or even try to crush it (up to 220lbf), and it will still take amazing photos. |
It let us take some pretty good underwater pictures on a trip to Antigua this year. You can check them out Here
Although after that trip the camera did develop a permanent little spot on the camera, so we just took it back for a new one and haven't used it for any underwater trips since. So I can't comment on it's longterm reliability. |

Well, I bought all my gear in 2007 (wife please don't read) I really took my time and did some research and I'm quite happy with:
*Pack - Atmos Osprey 65 - big light and comfy.
*Stove - Brunton mini stove - fits in the bottom of a fuel tank - soo cool.
2008 - I'm eyeballing that new REI 1 man 1/2 dome - really nice. they needed to come out with that one! But I might get one of mikes customs. _________________ Douglas

That is a great stove! My stove of choice for the last 3 years! I'm so glad to get rid of my MSR Pocket Rocket!

You should get one of Mike's! Buy local, and have something super light and cool! Mike debuted a new design this weekend at Hance Creek in the Grand Canyon. Very cool! Perhaps he will post pictures soon. _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.

I have posted two pics of the new design. This design allows the user to have full foot box coverage without the "sqeeze" common on traditional A-frame tarps. This design also adds more room to the front for either a taller, or wider pitch depending on preference. I am confident that you could withstand a fairly strong gust since the dual ridgelines share the load on the fabric without adding tremendous weight. This tarp is only 3 oz heavier than my previous accomplishments but has room for 2 in a pinch. These facts coupled with the satisfaction of making my own gear have propelled this item to the top of my gear list. So I guess you could say it was my favorite.
keep your eyes peeled for a Free-Standing, ultralight 2 man tent (think Big Sky, but without the bad business practice) Im working on prototypes for sil-nylon freestanding tents in the 2 lb range. Could you guys imagine a 2 person Cuben Fiber tent, with 2 poles, that would weigh around 14 ounces? It CAN happen, and it should. I would love to be that guy! _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

I can't say what my favorite piece of gear was, but I know what it wasn't; my Timberland boots. What pieces of junk. Started falling apart the first week I had them. Anyone got recommendations for new boots this year that are under $150? _________________ Anywhere is within walking distance if you spend the time. |

La Sportiva Trango Trek. Probably the most comfortable and longest lasting boots I've ever owned. I tried to get away from boots and go with low-top light hiker type shoes, but it just isn't working out. I wore my Asolo Fugitive boots in the canyon this weekend. They are not the most comfortable. After wearing some Merrell shoes for awhile, I now know that the Asolos are too narrow.
I've got my eye on the Montrail Namche boots, but I might just get another pair of Trango Treks.
If anyone wears a size 10, I've got a pair of Garmont Nasty's that I'll basically give you. They are awesome shoes, but they don't fit me correctly. I ordered them online, and I wore them twice, so I can't return them. There's no resale value in shoes, so if you want them, there yours. Fit medium to low volume feet. Very sticky sole, and comfy insole! _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.
