I just saw that the Discovery Channel is showing the Planet Earth series again beginning tonight. It's excellent...if you get a chance be sure to watch.

HD DVD and Blu-Ray versions at Sam's Club for $56.00. This is THE show to watch on Hi Def TV.

Yeah it's pretty awesome, watched them all last year. May pick up the dvd of them.

IGO, you have a Blue ray or HD Dvd player?

I may need to go to a store and see if I can see a difference with the HD DVD.

Yes, I did purchase a HDTV and I've drooled over the Blue Ray DVD players but the conservative part of me decided to wait. I think they were 999.99 at the time and it wasn't clear which type was going to win. I am feeling more confident about the Blue Ray so it IS on my Christmas list this year. (as are new toenails....the silk wraps keep popping off like the originals!)

Watched a Grand Canyon Rafting trip on Blue Ray DVD/HDTV.....nearly put me into a coronary arrest it was so amazing.

Better yet, I'm trying to get hooked with my own HD video camera.

Plasma's are too finicky and will be gone in a few years. But yes for an LCD of a decent size you are going to be paying $$$$, plasma does have that market. I have an old (3yr) Mitsubishi CRT thats 1080i in the living room, and a 37" Sharp 1080p LCD in the bedroom. Now thats the one I love to watch, especially with the HD cable.

With the new slim SLP's and the lower price on Plasma's I will never be able to get rid of my CRT, although they last YEARS! The bulbs on DLP seem to go out about once a year, at least thats what my friends have been complaining about at $100-200 a bulb.

Yeah SUZ. The war between HDDVD and Blu Ray rages on. It's just like the BetaMax and VHS wars in the early 80's. I couldn't pick one or the other for their merits as both are spectacular but the HDDVD players are making the first price cuts for the hardware. I joined NetFlix a few weeks ago and they do not charge higher prices for their HiDef DVDs like Hollywood or Blockbuster and they say they will stock EVERY title....even if both formats only have between 300 and 400 titles each. Anyway, I think Planet Earth is BluRay but what I know for sure is it was meant to iconify HiDef TV and it is stunning.
I am going with the 50 inch plasma as I already run Sony Elevated Standard audio electronics and Polk Audio Reference Theatre towers for surround sound. I'm going to finish this monster.

The shelf life of plasmas have increased hugely in the last two years as well. They now have a half life of 60,000 hours which is comperable to CRT or LCD now. It's no longer a deciding factor. What is is the sigle greatest consideration between LCD and Plasma (NOT resolution) which is contrast ration. The shiniest pictures have the darkest blacks and Plasmas still have that hands down. When the pixels get bigger, this makes a great deal of difference.
BTW Tim. The Mitsubishi CRT is neither a plasma nor an LCD. It's a Cathode Ray Tube....hence the CRT. You bedroom set is bound to look better.

The Sony Trinitron, state of the art for about 45 minutes sometime in the late 80's, is still going strong after 13 years. But it doesn't hold a candle to the Zenith solid state 13 inch screen, purchased 1983 still sitting on the kitchen counter, still looks great, rabbit ears and all. Smile
