Yesterday marked the second anniversary of the Florida Fire which burned over 23,000 acres in the Santa Rita Mountains between July 7 and 21, 2005. The cost to suppress the Florida Fire was $8.1 million plus 13 firefighter injuries. The fire was started by a lightening strike on Florida Peak, and was essentially doused by monsoon rains in conjunction with the valiant efforts of firefighters. Here are several time-sequenced photos that I shot from our community in southern Sahuarita:

The Florida Fire changed the landscape in the Santa Rita Mountains for a lifetime. The Madera Canyon trail system was closed for most of the summer of 2005 and, to this day, the Florida Canyon Trail and Four Springs Trail remain closed (although there is no reason for the latter to be closed between Kent Spring and the Santa Rita crest).

Bill

P.S. This is my first attempt to post an image in a posting so I hope it works.

Many photo sites don't allow transfer of their photos to other sites.

Yeah it appears that site is one of them. Nice pictures though. What was the time frame between those shots?

Thanks Hooli. Inserting pics from photo storage sites can be finicky sometimes, and perhaps that's the problem. However, I've been able to post those same photos here:

Wonder if I can download my images to the AZH Gallery and insert photos into my posting from the AZH Gallery? I might give that a try.

The first photo was from the morning of July 10; the second from the evening of July 10; the third from July 12, 2005.

Great shots!

Not that you've figured out how to post images, can you let me in on it? I've tried several times. I think there are directions somewhere but I haven't found them.

Shawn, in this case, instead of trying to load them here on AZH from another photo site, Bill uploaded them to our gallery. Then it's just a matter of right clicking on the photo, then clicking on "Properties", Copying the url address that comes up. Then go to the topic's Message Body you want to place the photo in, click on the "Img" box at the top of the Message Body, paste the url address of the photo, then ckick once more on the "Img" box. That should put your photo in the topic's Message body.

Here's the steps:

1. The photo must already be somewhere on the internet (with a URL) such as the AZH Gallery.
2. Copy and paste the URL into your posting.
3. Highlight the URL in your posting and click on the "Img" button.
4. Step 3 will place [Img] before and after the photo's URL.
5. To test if the image will post, click on "Preview".
6. If you see the photo in the Preview mode, then Submit your posting.
7. If you don't see your photo in the Preview mode, your photo will not post. Try again by downloading your photo to the AZH Gallery and repeat steps 2 through 6.

PC, I was a loyal Mac user for many years, owned a 128K Mac and still have a working SE in my den. But when the Mac store in the Chandler Mall "done me wrong" I gave up the ship and bought two higher end (at the time) Gateway notebooks. I see Mac has survived my departure.

Thanks for the directions. I've tried cutting and pasting the URL when at the pic in the gallery, will try the properties version.

Great shots of the fire. Still have my Mac 512K enhanced to Mac Classic. Use an iMac Blueberry. The folks at the Mac store are not very friendly so I use ReMac.
