Yep, snagged the Knorr sides the other day and tried them out at work for lunch. Of course the teachers think I'm crazy eating out of a freezer bag.

Here's where I'm at now:

740 cal homemade granola 25g protein = 4oz
140 cal Bumble Bee Chicken salad with crackers 8g protein = 4oz
360 cal Knorr Cheddar Rice w/ broc & carrots plus 1/2c of freeze dried chicken 29g protein = 3oz
360 cal for (4) honey & oats bars 8g protein = 3oz

1600 calories 66g of protein and 14oz total for the day.
of course I'll add the prosecutor bars and that will bump up the calories, meal weight and protein a bit.

Of course I plan to vary the dinner a bit with different sides...really like the pasta ones.

Any more thoughts to add?

For nine days my food weighed just over 10 lbs.... took a lot of foods that need hydrated for lunch to get rid of the wieght of the tuna and chicken packets. Used TVP for our protien source a lot. It takes on the flavor of what ever you cook (or in this case, rehydrate it with) I never went hungry and had a bar or two left at the end.

Spam singles, 16 grams of fat, 2 grams of carbs and 14 grams of protein. After three days you will crave more protein, better and easier than lizard.

Ya know Scout it's too bad the timing didn't work out....I would have loved watching you live off the land. Sort of reminds me of Tim's first camping trips. Laughing Maybe I'll catch ya on the next trip!

Okay here's where I'm at:
7 days of hiking = 8 days of food packed (one extra day just in case)
9 pounds in the food bag including gatorade, power gel, candy

I have each days worth of food individually bagged. I don't know if that's a good idea or a bad idea. I know I could shave off a few ounces if I didn't do that.

FYI---I did have to revise the plan of using the knorr sides with freeze dried chicken. I thought that was going to save me about an ounce a day but turns out I can't get the food cooked right with just boiling water and letting it sit. Those things have to be boiled for 9 minutes....too much fuel. If you just pour boiling water in and let it sit....even for 4-5 hours the rice and pasta never really does the plump thing.

On to the gear, I suppose.

I actually like my thermolite reactor more than I like my sleeping bag so I'll think that through a bit more. I have 2 tubes and one is 4oz lighter but harder to inflate and doesn't have the handles for easy hook-up..... suppose I could just use water wings Laughing

Matches and lighter are included with the cooking stuff...thanks though.

First of all---I don't really have room for clothes.....but yes, I haven't packed clothes, sunscreen, and first aid stuff...that's the next bag....hoping to keep that at 5lbs.

I bet the tube for floating the pack won't work too well, although I haven't seen it. Unless it's like a raft, but then it would be more than 1 pound. Keep the thermalite reactor, I love mine, if it's warm you may end up just laying on your bag and sleeping in the reactor, plus it keeps your bag clean and is much friendlier on the skin.
