i was hoping to get some advice on the best way to take jpeg photos from my computer and put them on my webspace, so that it doesn't take forever to load the page, especially if there are 15-20 photos on a given page? HELP! |

Dennis, I think it depends upon who hosts your website, what means they've provided for uploading and the kind of internet connection you have. I also think that our modems and the web are designed to provide much faster download speed than upload speed, simply because there is much, much more downloading going on with most computers and their users. I have cable modem and it's super fast downloading, but when I upload my photos to yahoo, six at a time, it takes two or three minutes; I can download the same photos in seconds. Go figure? Maybe others can give you tips on how to upload faster. _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Well
My web space is through Arizona State Univesity, since I work there, and I have a cable modem. The uploading of them didn't take too long, its just that when I load the page that I put them on, it takes a good amount of time for them to pop up. I want them to be like small thumbnails, and then you can click on them for the larger pic and description. If any of that makes sense! |

Take a look at Irfanview, which is a free image editor available at http://www.irfanview.com/english.htm. It has an option that lets you create a thumbnail page from a directory of images. It will save the page, thumbs and original images in a single folder. You can then upload that to your webspace. It's pretty simple to use, but if you need help, come back here and ask. Several people here use it and would be happy to help you out. _________________ [/size] |

Yeah Dennis, sounds to like what you're after is this: http://photos.yahoo.com/bodew
My yahoo photos.....my grandson's 1st b-day...cute kid, huh? Oh never mind!
And the GC backpacking trip I made in Oct. with GTG and kurthzone.
Click on the album title, you get the thumbnails, click on the thumbnails you get a larger photo. What I uploaded was the larger photo, Yahoo made the thumbnails automatically. In fact, the photos I uploaded are much larger than you'll see after you click the thumbnail. Is that what you're after?(BTW this is free for the 1st 30mb, after that you have to pay something like $3 a month for the extra space, but get an added benefit; If I was paying for the extra space (I'm not) you'd be able to click on the larger photo you first got and you'd get the original resolution photo I had uploaded......but Hooli's a cheap SOB Shuddup everyone! Think the school would have to provide the thumbnailing package. _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Dennis...
If you post thumbnails, and want to click on them to bring up the full size image, then your webcode has to point to both the thumbnail image and the full size image.
For example:
<A HREF="fullsizepic.jpg"><IMG SRC="tn_thumbnailsizepic.jpg"></A>
" A-href " is what happens when you click on the thumbnail.
" IMG SRC " is the thumbnail size pic.
Copy the above line if you wish and make sure both pics are in the same directory and you will see how it works.
There is also a FREE program called EZ Thumbnails which will resize your pics and save with a t_n prefix
There is a photo gallery on my website if you want to see it in action. |

Doggonit Mrs. Mike, I thought I paid you to say he was almost as cute as me!
And, really...thanks Mrs. Mike and Dennis. Visited the kid over thanksgiving which also included his first birthday; stole my heart.....and he ignored me 'cause he thought The 'senji Hooligans were more interesting. (probably true!) And he gave me this little bug that's pretty much laid me low the past six weeks. But I love him and he can do it again.....just hope he doesn't _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Woohoo-
By George I think I've got it. http://www.public.asu.edu/~dbench/pics.html . Granted I just did this real quick, so I have to erase some things, and actually put the pics I want on there. But I know next to nothing about making a web page, so its kinda fun, and eventually I can put all my trip reports on there, and all my PA, MT, and AZ hiking pics there. HAZ going down actually made me finally get making a page that I've been thinkin of making for a while. Thanks for the help everyone, the infraview is pretty nifty. |

Ah, the carefree life of viruses and other sicknesses caried around by kids. One gets it and pretty soon they all have it.
I've definitely noticed I get sick more now that we have a little one passing the germs along from his play friends.
Oh, yea - cute little Grand Kid you have there. Good thing he takes after his mom and not his cantankerous old grandpa! _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

Wow! Nice job Dennis.... and these aren't the pics you want? Can't wait to see the real thing. You're gonna have to let me know when I get back in two weeks so I can take another look, OK? _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

I shouldn't have said those weren't the ones I wanted, I just meant that I wanted to seperate them into the hikes I did them on. Also I have lots of hikes I did in PA and MT. Also I need to develop the ones from the GC and Saguaro this past week. So eventually I would like to have descriptions and where they were, and that type of thing. That way I can just link them to a message here, so everyone can see them as each new hike is done. |
