Safeway has the Lipton "cooks in N minutes" rice and noodle side dishes on sale this week for $1.

Repack them into a snack size ziplock, add 3 oz chicken or tuna, and you have a great back pack meal.

I've used one of those each night of my last two week long trips. Great BP food.
While we're at it, you can take any of the Lipton "Rice Sides" and dump them in your pot, let them sit for 10 minutes them just warm'm up hugely reducing cook time a fuel needs. Works great.

Well I scored 7 of the Lipton side dishes of both rice or noodles so thanks for the heads up Shawn. Only 7 bucks for a lot of good trip food.

Yeah, it costs more for the package than the fluff inside. Which is also true a can of a Coke nowdays as well.

Bachpackers watch the grams they pack away. Even if they are not devoted ultralight backpackers such as myself; we take a close hard look atwhat we are willing to cart around on our backs for 2 days or 2 weeks. It could easily cost a grand or even two to shave 12 Wal Mart pounds off of your backpack weight.
Have you ever thought of sawing half the handle off your toothbrush? or wearing the same socks for 3 days?
