Wish I lived close enough to a decent trailhead....Sad

I go hiking on the way home from work, usually around 3:30 pm or so. Since I-17 is pretty impossible at that time, I sneak up 51 to dreamy draw or take Greenway to shaw butte.

I am lucky enough to live only 3 exits to thunderbird park in glendale too.

It really IS too hot, but if you know your limits and be careful, It can be lots of fun, plus you can get a good tan!

I actually brave the heat and go hiking early morning during the summer occasionally.

I find, however, that being hot just makes me irritable (well, more irritable than normal anyway...) and really impatient and just miserable to be around.

But then others would argue that there is no perceptible change..... Mr. Green

I should probably shut up. I've left the door a little too wide for others to rip on me.

Why summer in Phoenix is good, (swiped from the New Times some years ago).

There is no waiting for a table in restaurants.

There's always a parking space open right in front of the store. (corollary to this - the best parking spaces are determined by shade, not convenience).

We can get all self-righteous and smarmy when people up north complain about a 98 degree day.

For some of us, it's basic training for Hell.

Never feel guilty again about 72 degree days in January - it's all bought and paid for with June, July and August.

Imagine what this place would look like if it were 72 degrees all year long.

It's hotter in Yuma.

I think when you move here initially, the heat is almost a novelty. Been here since' 74(eek!) + the summer never bothered me until about '85 or so ( can we say age?? eeeoo). Also it was not EVEN a smidge polluted or ozone unfriendly then. You could see everything everywhere! It also used to cool down considerably in the nights. Yup! I've become a weenie. No more death marches in the heat for Georgie! Rolling Eyes Yes, Randy, the pools are steamy, but it feels good when you get out!(with a beer!) Wink

I doubt if I'll get much sympathy if I whine about the 100 degree days here in Prescott. Rolling Eyes But it has been a pretty dead time for me too. My favorite playground (the Canyon) is also way to hot to play in, so I've been staying in the shade too.

But then a bit over a week ago I hiked My. Whitney, last Saturday I did Humphreys, and I'm headed to Havasupai this weekend. Crazy When it rains, it pours.... (I just wish it WOULD rain!!) Hank
