Walking It Off: A Veteran's Guide of War and Wilderness by Doug Peacock.

I'm a big Abbey fan and although a lot of 'personal' memoirs I've read about other folks come off fairly self-serving, this one doesn't.

Peacock and Abbey were friends for a long time and Abbey patterned the character Hayduke, in Monkey Wrench Gang after Peacock. A lot of telling insights into both Abbey and Peacock are told and Peacock is every bit as eloquent, and funny, as Edward Abbey.
