I was wanting to buy some sock liners for when I go hiking. Does anyone use these? What do you think of them? Normally I wear some pretty thick socks w/ my boots.
Any input would be appreciated. Smile

I'd like to suggest quilting as an alternative.

I'm a big fan of liners. I don't recall the name but I got them at Sports Authority, $5+/- bucks, white. Those and some big thick Fox River or Thorlo backpacking socks, don't do much for blisters from quilting needles but pretty much end the blisters on my feet.

Shawn- The brand is called WIGWAM. I did see them at Sports Authority. I haven't gotten any blisters yet but do feel a "hot spot" every now and then. I was also going to buy some moleskin, just in case a nasty blister showed up.

LOL. I saw someone getting ready to go hiking (I asked), and they said they swore by them.

some people love them some people hate them...I think you have to just try them and see what YOU think.

I'm always into trying something new. Smile I was looking to wear them w/ thinner socks (since it's so hot) and see how they do. Smile

Some people swear by them, some swear at them... For me, just wearing thick Thorlo's seems to work best, along with trail running shoes...

Suz- I didn't get it at first, but now I do thanks to your pm. Wink

Hnak- My Keens were bought today, next is the trail runners. I will definitely try the liners w/ thinner socks in the trail runners as I plan to run some of the trails at the Supes. I'm also gonna have to go back to REI (big sigh inserted here) to check out the socks again.

Diane- I bet you guys/gals have definitely ruined plenty of shoes during your years of hiking.LOL

Don't change the thickness of your hiking socks because you've chosen to wear a liner or no. The liner will have very little influence in that choice.
I read it that poly is a better liner than silk but I'm not sure why that would be.
To save pack weight, I carry as few liner pairs as I think I can get away with between places I can wash liners socks. They take 95% of a hards days odor and wash very easily at camp. With 2 pair of liners, my thick socks are good for a couple days.

IGO- Thanks for the info. I am going to REI today to pick up more socks and then head over to Sports Authority for the liners and see how they do on my next hike.

Yes

I end up getting blisters with liners .... Rolling Eyes. Thick socks work best for me ...a new pair every day works even better ( it conflicts with my lightweight hiking goals Chin Scratching though)

You just gotta try and see....

I change or wash my sox out every 5 days whether they need it or not, I feel it helps keep the place smellin nice.
