Anyone know where to get enough training so as not to kill myself the first outing?
Thanks _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

You've got a few decent choices in the Phx metro area...
Arizona Canoe and Kayak Outfitters is in Tempe and offers equipment, tours and instruction.
Canyons and Coastlines Kayak School offers tours and classes
A third option is to contact Riverproof Outfitters http://www.riverproof.com/ and see if Matt or John will offer lessons...they might...they're nice guys and excellent teachers... _________________ -Colin

Are you talking white water kayaking, lake kayaking or recreational kayaking on slow rivers like the lower Salt?
If you are not doing white water, there isn't too much to learn. Just remember to keep the side with the hole facing up _________________

I can give anyone interested in a quick lesson on the lower salt which is a good intro, not too technical. The weekends are pretty much packed with tubers but the wee morning can be do-able. The river is only swift in areas with some good flat water paddling. I only have a rig for myself but I believe the tube shop closest to the dam has rentals!! Not the ones with the shuttle buses. |

Hey Mr. S, I've just started getting interested in Kayaking, too. Probably two real different varieties: Ocean and Whitewater, as found on the Pacific and on the Green.
REI has rentals and maybe some instructional stuff, too. _________________ What a magnificent time to LIVE! - Everett Ruess.

Sounds good to me. I'd like to bring my 18 yr old son and maybe a couple of his buds. Will look at dates. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |
