Tim already told you about the beta version of Google maps - but it looks like they've added a "Satellite" feature.
drill down as far as you like on the map, then click the "Satellite" link in the upper right corner.

Wow thats pretty cool. I looked up my place and I see my neigbors whilte suburban in there driveway along with there swimming pools and my house used to have an above ground pool. So the image for my house was at least 1 year old but definitely newer than 98'.

Wow I even looked up some areas I have worked in the Air Force and it even shows them, previous satalite images I have seen have blocked the area off. Pretty Freaky! |

For a long time I have been searching for aerial views that might show the trails in the Superstitions. There are a number of satellite views and aerial photos of populated areas but very few of wilderness areas that can show enough detail. recently I bought on line Keyhole 2LT. very inexpensive and it is the best. It has enhanced aerial photos done in 2004 that have many features of magnification, place names, elevation tilts and they show every trail in the Superstitions. I can even easily follow the Siphon Draw all the way up the drainage and over to the 5024. I have been able to very clearly see the entire Dutchman trail (in sections of course) and can print out the elevation digital enhanced views.
Previously I had used Terra Server, Land Volage, Landsat, Ikonos and space imaging. None of them compare with Keyhole. Although I still use my topo programs I can now tear up my 4 foot by 3 foot aerial piece together photos (all very dark and hard to pick out trails) and can make a collage of the many plates from keyhole. It is fun to track the peralta trail with all its switchbacks and turns up to Fremont and beyond.
If you have not tried it you will be amazed at what you can see. Finally now I am quite satisfied with the enhanced aerial views I can get with keyhole 2LT |
