I am interested in doing Pinnicle peak, but since HAZ died I have no clue how to get there. My other question is: is it possible to get to the top of it and has anybody here been to the top?
I am located near loop 101 and 7th st, instructions from this point would be helpfull.

Head east on 101 to Pima Rd...North on Pima Rd. to Happy Valley Rd. Turn right (east) onto Happy Valley Rd and then left (north) onto Alma School Parkway; just follow the signs from there.
I'm sure many of the rock climbers have made it to the top, but it does take rock climbing.

All previous blathering has been edited to try and save the reputation (however soiled it may be) of the offending party. Do forgive his lapse in judgement and his brief foray into intellectual vapidness.

No sweat. The peak trail goes right up to the top. There are a couple of sections where they have some cables bolted into the rock that you can hang onto if you like, but you can make it no problem. Honestly it sounds worse than it is.

Look at the events posts - there will be a group of us going in a few weeks, if you can wait long enough, just come with us - we had a great time the last time we went.
Um, Daddee... me thinks you're talking about Picacho Peak, not Pinnacle.... Yes

Hey Daddee Rolling Eyes think you're talking Picacho instead of Pinnacle Peak.

Hey, they both start with a "P" - and yes - I wasn't reading close enough to make the distinction.

The sheer amount of opportunities this sentance affords simply boggles the mind. Hoolie speaking of Nastiness as though it were J-lo...

Holy mother of creation! Hoolie is about to blow a gasket!!!

Don't hold back John - it'll only create a cataclysm of Krakatoa proportions!

does Pinnacle peak need ropes? I'm not much of a rope person. If its class 3 or easy class 4 then no prob.

The trail itself requires no technical skills at all; contractor built and not much less than a dirt sidewalk. Can't speak for the rock climbing....at my age the class would be rated in three digits! Laughing

Yes, I believe ropes are required to summit Pinnacle Peak. It just recently opened up again to access.

durn, i think that this mountain is out for me. Sad I hate hiking mountains and cannot reach the peak.
mike sure gave me some hope there for a second saying that there is a cable route mixing up 2 mountains. Sure would be nice if there was a cable route.

I did do Picacho with you guys last year, was a good hike.

Canyon Dweller, Only the rock climbing part of Pinnacle Peak requires ropes.
The main trail is a 3.5 miles out and back trail and quite easy. I've seen a lot of folks my age there just out for a Sunday stroll that requires some exertion. You hiked Granite Mountain with us and unless that knee of yours has really given out on you, Pinnacle Peak should be a breeze; much, much easier than Granite Mountain. Drive on out there and give it a look.

I'll probably still do it, I just like reaching the peak of any mountain I do. I'm just a little dissapointed that i probably wont be able to get to the peak itself.
as far as my knee is concerned, it went out on me cuz it was totaly out of shape. I have been hiking camelback mountain once a week and when i do it i hike it twice. camelback twice seams to be more difficult than Granite Mountain. i have not had any problems with it since I got it into shape.
