My usual set up os about 3.5 oz stove head; 11-20 oz on fuel+7 oz on pot ...

I think it only comes out to be 8 oz. difference, however I did notice that the JetBoil uses a smaller propane container that fits into the bottom. So this would take a couple of additional oz. off? Since the JetBoil is so efficient it uses less fuel.

Anyway, that's my theory, I might be wrong!?

I read that it was only 15oz somewhere., that's for the stove, pot, cup, windscreen and all. It's tempting seeing how efficient (SP) it is. If I were to be doing a longer backpacking trip I'm sure I would splurge and get it.

Is the propane canister proprietary, or can you use any canister? If it is proprietary how hard are they to get?

Yes, but not all will fit into the cup for storage, not a big problem I guess, if you don't want it rattling around you could pad it with socks or stuff. Seems to be great for multi day hikes, and about even for overnighters considering the effeciency and all. Do you think it will come down a little in price before long?

I don't think they will come down in price that much. Maybe on sale once in a while, but $70 or so isn't too bad considering it comes with everything you need except the canisters, I'm sure most of us have paid more for out stoves, pots, cups, and cozy's.

Check the web page for the jet boil the cup/pot is 32oz but they don't recomend more than 16oz.
Most of the time this is not a problem but if you plan on two cups for dinner and the more for drinks then it is.

I've been using the Jetboil since last July now and I really like it. The only time it had a problem was at the 10000 foot level on Mt. Shasta. I couldn't get the piezo igniter to work but since my buddy had an MSR, it was moot. That was the only time I had the igniter problem but I now carry a disposable butane lighter. I had kept the canister in my tent and in my pocket prior to trying to light it but if you want true convenience and space saving delight, the extra few ounces is worth it. Anyone in the market for a pocket rocket? Smile

The Jetboil rep was in the other day and he said that they were workingo n a new ultralight model of the jetboil, he didn't know when it would be out. I can't imagine how they're going to improve on the current six ounce model...

There is also a new stove attachment for the jetboil, it locks in where the cup sits, so you can use it to cook now too. I'm not sure if they were on the market yet or just would be soon. The whole set weighed (or will weigh) one ounce.
