Anyone used the new JetBoil stove yet?
It's a work of art - or as my gearhead friend called it "revoloutionary design"!

Haven't used one yet! But I also would be interested in how they actually work in the field! They do look pretty revolutionary with the fins on the bottom and the cup cozy and all!

I was looking at one at REI a few weeks ago. It's very revolutionary looking, but at the same time kind of awkward looking. I'll stick with my present setup methinks. I can't see shelling out the dinero for something like that. Seems like it wouldn't pack down too well to me.

I've seen these in the stores. I think that they might be ideal for long backpacking trips because how little fuel you would have to carry with you, but they do seem bulky.

I just bought a new stove. I based my choice on, how it would be used and recommendations from others here. I generally do not cook, just boil water for dehydrated foods and tea. I also have not backpacked longer then 6 days and found that one canister of fuel is enough for me and one other person. So, I went with the Bruton Optimus stove (it rest snugly underneath the canister, which will fit inside my titanium pot, that I ordered). It's light weight, compact and would suit my needs.

I think GPSJoe has a Jetboil. I wonder how he likes his?

I do love gear, and I love to research gear and I love to hear what other people are using and why they use it, as opposed to other products.

I tested it at home, it's going "in the field" this weekend, so I'll have to report back. I'm certain that I'm going to love it. When I tested it, the water boiled very fast compared to my GAZ. It's so tiny too, but it held a big pot (which I borrowed for this test....I'm awaiting my new pots arrival, you know pay check to pay check type situation). Mary

Yeah, I have a very similar situation Mary! Thats why I am waiting for a good field test before I commit to this one! I seem to remember some one being concerned about sturdiness and stability.... I will await your word!

I had one of my friends for the Tonto trip along with my pocket rocket and I liked the Bruton much better, it was more stable also. Diane you will be very happy with it if you decide to get one. Although it doesn't sound like it's going to blast off Scared

I like my Pocket Rocket, but the JetBoil is way superior for windy situations, with that intigrated wind shield. It's not really practical for actual cooking, but I just boil water too - and for a solo camper, especially it's perfect. It doesn't pack down real small, but that's 'cause it's got the built in cup - canister fits inside and you've got stove, fuel, windscreen, sippy cup/pot,neoprene cup cozy, and measuring cup all in one - the true weight can't be beat. It's also extremely efficient so your fuel lasts longer.

Sounds like you've made up your mind. I would like to hear how it works and what you think of it compared to your pocket rocket (which was my second choice to my new stove). Mary

gpsjoe has one of these and I envy him every time we camp. While my water is still warming up he is already on his second cup of coffee. And yes you are correct it is a superior design.

Another item on my wish list Rolling Eyes

Cheap too at only 60 bucks. Not a bad price considering it includes the pot, and the windscreen. I might have to go for one of these.

18oz ? Isnt that kinda heavy for a pot -- may be if you are doing extended backpacking ...the tradeoff between weight of pot vs fuel canisters - makes it wortwhile.

I have been tempted by this one a few times ....but 18oz keeps me want to not get it...am I missing something here...

My usual set up os about 3.5 oz stove head; 11-20 oz on fuel+7 oz on pot ...
